Travel themed engagement party

DoctorSq, on January 2, 2018 at 11:04 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

Hi everyone!

My FH and I are hosting our own engagement party (I know many say that it is tacky, but this is what we have chosen). We got engaged in Venice, have previously been long distance for a year, are originally from PR and now live in NYC, and love to travel so we decided to incorporate this into our engagement party theme. We are having a small event and I have bought a couple of decorations but need help because I still feel like it will not look well. I have boxes in the shapes of vintage luggage (3 different sizes), I will have a small table with favors in the shape of luggage, and maybe a globe and some fotos of where we have traveled together. Anybody else have any ideas of DYI things I can make? Thanks!

I saw this thing where they had the coordinates for locations on things. Like the coordinates for where you met, the coordinates for where you lived at the time. The coordinates for the wedding location...

It would also be cute if you got post cards? Maybe order them off of ZAZZLE. I found some for my home town on there, and put those around?

Hi! I know this is a touchy subject in WW but this was the decision we made. First, we are having a long engagement (2020 or 2021), so we wanted to get started with some sort of celebration. Second, we got engaged in a trip abroad right before Hurricane Maria hit our hometown, so we never got to celebrate with anybody or even feel like we could celebrate this big moment in the mist of all the turmoil in our homes. We want to celebrate with our friends and we have people helping us with decorations and such, especially since 2018 was a gloomy year for many of our friends and family. We also wanted to bring together our friends to celebrate that this is happening since we have not gotten together for over 3 years. We are not expecting gifts or anything of that sort. We both love to party and throw/host parties and activities, so we decided that we could splurge a little bit for this and bring together our closest friends for an activity.

Thanks I have but I haven't seen many DYI so I decided to hit WW to see if I get some ideas.

Love this! I have a ton of postcards from everywhere we have gone but I will definitely look for vintage looking post cards as well! Thanks

I think the ideas you already have are enough. If you overdo any theme, you step into children's birthday party territory.

I wouldn’t overdo the theme. Remember also that anyone invited to a pre-wedding event must be invited to the wedding.

Love the engagement party theme! I think the stuff you have planned is already good. Maybe you can also get a map and have people mark with stickers places they've gone that they think you would enjoy since you love to travel together? There are also scratch off maps where you can scratch off all the countries you've been to together so it's another piece of decor that won't be over the top.

World MapTravel themed engagement party 1

Our wedding theme is World, and I just bought World Map backdrop. That will be at the place where we will be taking pictures, instead of PhotoBooth. I am trying to save as much as I can, so instead of ordering backdrop (big one can be pretty expensive) I bought shower curtain. I know it sounds funny, but think about it. Its cheap, they have so many option, good material and it already have hooks, so its perfect.

If you need more globes, I would recommend checking OfferUp and Facebook Marketplace. I bought about 10 so far and I didn't pay more then $5 per globe.
Our wedding is big, 250 people, so I need a lot of globes. Smiley smile

Table NumbersTravel themed engagement party 4

Our wedding reception will be travel themed. I just finished making our table numbers (simple but legible) and I also plan on having votive candles with maps modge podged on

the outsides. I was originally going to just have table names but saw the suggestion that numbers would be easier... so we made them departure gates.
