Traveling With Dress

Zoe, on September 9, 2019 at 5:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I live across the country from where I am from/where the wedding is. I have my dress with me for fittings but will need to take it back home with me the week of the wedding. Has anyone done this and have any advice on the best way to handle? I have heard that planes have closets you can hang garment bags in but I am nervous about carrying around a 6 ft long garment back through security etc and then there not being space in closet. I also heard of people folding the dress into the largest possible carry on and keeping it with them the entire time but my fear with that is I will have a belt sown onto the dress and I don't want it to rip any other parts of the dress in transit.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and what did you do??

I have to bring mine to Hawaii. I contacted the airline about the closet and was told I would have to check it or stuff it in the overhead compartment. I decided to check it. As for my belt I'm taking a lot of tissue paper and wrapping it around so it doesn't snag the lace. It was suggested to mail it to my hotel but I just can't. I'm having a panic attack about my dress possibly not arriving with me. Good luck!!

My mom mailed mine to me via FedEx with no issues and I’m planning to mail it back 6 weeks before the wedding. The insurance was $52 so worst case scenario they’ll be buying me a new dress.

I am flying too so on a recent trip, I did some research and asked 4 separate flight crews for advise. They said to check the type of plane you are flying on and if it has a large first class section it will have closets and they generally accommodate wedding dresses. My flight is on a smaller plane so that is not an option. I am shipping it via FedEx directly to the company who is steaming it.

How much was it for your mom to ship it via FedEx, if you don’t mind me asking?
