Tricks for getting dress on and off

Adriana, on September 7, 2020 at 7:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

My wedding dress just arrived and it fits me perfectly however since it is form fitting, has long sleeves, high neckline and a sheer covering on the v-back it's difficult to get on but more so getting it off. I don't know if this is a stupid question but are there any "tricks" to getting your wedding dress off and on when you have sleeves. I'm able to get it on by going through the bottom of the dress and slipping my arms in first before putting my head through but getting it off is such a struggle trying to get my arms out and down through the bottom of the dress. There is a zipper down the side but it's only 1.5 feet long. I included a couple of pictures of my dress to help get an idea of what I'm working with.

I don't know about the sleeves, etc - however you *may* want to step in instead of pulling it over your head so you don't mess up your hair or get makeup on the dress. As a general rule, you're going to have help getting the dress on and off as well.

I’ve tried over the head and stepping into mine. However with it being form fitting you probably need help getting out of it, which I’m sure FH won’t mind Smiley winking

Oh snap, I didn't think of this. Whelp, I have to do the same as the OP. My hips are too big to fit from the top. Guess I'll just try really hard not to mess up my hair and makeup!

I tried stepping in and there's no way that's happening lol I think because of the high neck and the trumpet/mermaid shape

I was thinking of doing my hair and makeup after getting my dress on and just wearing a robe over my dress while I'm doing hair and makeup so I don't get anything on it

That's because you're a smart lady! 😄 I, on the other hand, am not. Lol
I can't easily use the bathroom in the dress, so that thing is going on at the last possible minute so I don't anxious b-room break right before the ceremony. I'm sure it'll turn out fine.

My MOH helped zipped me into my dress and my husband helped take it off. I think most wedding dresses are a 2-person job lol.

Wear a shower cap to protect hair if doing it after in not an option and make sure to wear button down / elastic clothes like a skirt.

Recruit friends to help with the dress.

    Do practice runs.

I had to do my hair first for timeline and had a very short amount of time (15 mins total) to get into my dress. I did it. Petticoat, underwear and all. Felt like an olympic event of wedding dresses.

Lol yes I'm definitely going to need to do some trial runs! I'm doing my own hair and makeup, very natural and simple with my natural curls so hopefully it won't take much time. I love the shower cap idea!

I decided to have someone else do my hair due it was precovid and my hair is a daily struggle. It is fine and does what it wants... My hair and I needed professional counselling to get along on that day.

Plus, I like sleep. Someone said they could do it in 45 mins and it was taking me 3 hours and putting me at a 4 am wake up vs 6 am.

Thank you! ☺️ I’m keeping my wedding under $10,000 but I splurged a little for my dress because it was one of the most important things for me

I don't know if this would work, but what if you nzipped it and stepped into the dress, pulled it up past your hips and then slipped an arm in one at a time? Then your MOH or a bridesmaid could help zip? Idk, my dress is an a-line strapless so thats how I do it.
