Try-on wedding dress different color than ordering

Rachael, on May 29, 2021 at 1:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I’m picking between my top two wedding dress choices. The hard part is that designers only carry the sample of both in a nude/tan underneath with the upper layer having all of the detail (embroidery, appliqué, beading) in ivory. However, what I would order would be ivory on ivory.

I am nervous to pick between the two and saying the final “yes” without being able to try on the dress in full ivory. They can’t order a sample in that, and the boutique only had a very small ivory fabric swatch they slipped between layers for me to visualize what ivory/ivory would be.
Any suggestions of what to do for my Say Yes appointment to get a better idea of color to make the final choice? Would it be odd to bring an ivory bedsheet to my next appt to stick between the layers? Kidding but kind of not! Open to all ideas!

I tried visualizing what a few of the dresses looked like when I went, but I'm not good at visualizing so I asked the sales person to only pull dresses in the color I wanted. Is there another store you could go to that might a sample of the dress with ivory on ivory?

That is a great suggestion however the designer of the dresses only offer samples in the non-ivory/ivory. The boutique even called them directly to see if we could loan one directly since they do allow you to purchase the color combination, but they said no.

Designer is Wtoo by Watters if anyone has tips based on knowing that!

I'm sorry that isn't an option. I had issues as well because I wanted a white dress and most samples come in ivory, champagne or blush because according to the sales person brides can easily visualize white whereas the other options are harder to visualize.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. I had the exact same problem. I fell in love my dress but when I tired it on it was a nude color and I’m a POC so I knew that would not work for me. I was able to locate the dress at another shop in the ivory/sand color. I still said yes to the dress but it did look different with the color change. I don’t think I would have be able to pick this dress if I couldn’t have seen it in the color I wanted because it was so different. Beading and lace pops and shows differently based on the different underlays.

Had this happen. The consultant picked a dress that was similar to the one I wanted in ivory. I decided to still get the dress and it was gorgeous when I got it! My dress does have a lot of detailing but it doesn’t get lost in the ivory. It def made me feel more bridal too. Best of luck!

That’s unfortunate they don’t have a larger ivory fabric sample! The boutiques I went to had large white and ivory fabric swatches for this reason, to give the illusion of white /white or ivory/ivory on samples that came in non-white colors. I say find and bring in your own larger piece or ivory fabric (or bedsheet!) and slide it in between the layers of fabric to give you a better idea. If there’s a similar style ivory / ivory sample dress available in the store, try that on as that may also help you confirm that the ivory/ivory color is the right one for you.
