Trying to decorate a ...not pretty....asphalt aisle

Private User, on December 14, 2015 at 3:31 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

The aisle I will be walking down at the zoo leads to a beautiful back drop at an exhibit with Zebras, Gazzelles, and giraffes. However the aisle itself is old asphalt. it's a bit cracked so unfortunaly i think its a better idea to skip a fabric aisle runner since it's probably better for the cracks to be visable so that we can avoid them. I'm trying to think of a way to dress it up a little. I'm not really having many flowers at my wedding so I think flower petals would be out of place. any cool ideas or suggestions?

    Line it with candles?

I second candles. How about vases/mason jars with baby's breath? The vases/jars can be plain or decorated with a nice ribbon. I know you said you are not having many flowers, but -- if it is a cost issue - baby's breath can be a less expensive option.

Not a single person is going to be looking at the asphalt- I wouldn't waste a lot of time thinking about it... perhaps the tea votive thinges in colored jars? don't make yourself crazy- something easy that can be set up quickly and taken down quickly- or nothing at all- not a single person will care.

Have they hosted weddings there before? Is there any way they can show you pictures of previously hosted weddings to see how they decorated that area? Not sure what colors or anything you're using, but could you do something with feathers going down the aisle or candles? I found this online.

I would avoid the sidewalk chalk on areas where you will be walking - unless you're cool with a tie-dye dress! Can you post a pic of the aisle?

I recently saw on pinterest a pretty gold arrow drawn with sparkly sidewalk chalk as a way to show guests where to go, so I am thinking maybe a pretty design down the aisle (sides probably, don't want chalk on your dress or clothing!), I am thinking white like spirals or something cute. Just an idea.

ETA: I also like the idea of candles! Or just a pretty garland from the end of each seat down the aisle, so it will lead the eye to that rather than drawing attention to the ground. And I was looking up a photo as an example, I saw this one that had the garland on the ground down the asphalt looking aisle, I think it looks really good!

I think by trying to decorate it you'd actually be drawing more attention to it. Like JoRocka said, I don't think anyone will be paying attention.

Don't even get me started on my event Coordinator. I think she is brand new to the venue. Heres a picture of when the ceremony will take place. I know my guests won't notice it much. I'm just thinking about pictures. I like the candle ideas. Thanks for that. Maybe something hanging on the chairs...

Honestly, I think trying to decorate it to cover it up will only draw attention to it. Leave it plain and I doubt anyone will really notice. You do because you're the bride. But the aisle isn't something anyone will judge. They will be looking at you in your lovely dress!

I don't think you should decorate it. Instead, do an arch or some type of flower arrangement where your "altar" will be to draw eyes that way!
