Trying to live stream my wedding with no wifi?

Marissa, on July 24, 2020 at 5:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

So I recently cut my guest list down, and I really want to live stream my ceremony for those guests that can't join us in person. I just want it to be a simple Facebook Live video filmed on an IPhone, no big production or anything. I'm wondering if we can do this with just cell data? The ceremony site is in a large field, it's very rural and there's no wifi that reaches that far. Has anyone done something similar? How was your live streaming experience? Any technology tips? Thank you!

I don’t have any particular tips in terms of live streaming but I will say that I’ve had to go to really rural farm places with no Wi-Fi and I had to get a really strong hotspot like a portable hotspot. So if you’re going to do this it’s gonna have to be really strong Internet so as another option I would look into a strong portable hotspot.

People go live from places like festivals or concerts all the time where there's no WiFi, so I don't think it would be an issue as long as you have cell service.

Thanks Melle! I'll look into portable hotspots.

That's true! It should just be fine with the cell service. Thank you!

I would ask someone at the venue how good the cell service is there. Most places have reasonably good service for at least one carrier, but if it's very rural, it might literally only be one. If that's the case, you'll want to figure out if it's the one you have, or if you can borrow a phone from someone else who'll be there.

Agree with PP, if you have strong cell service, it should be fine. Another option is just having someone record on their iPhone and then send the video out later. We did that for my SIL's wedding (as well as had Zoom up). We then uploaded the video to a private YouTube account. There's a privacy option where the video is unsearchable and only accessible via the direct link which we texted/emailed to people.
