Tulle off shoulder straps or no? Wedding dress help!

Taylor, on November 10, 2018 at 1:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 44

Hi everyone! I want some opinions about alterations for my dress because I can't decide. So here is my ball gown dress Smiley love It fit me perfect and I was able to walk out of the bridal shop with it so the only alterations I need are hemming it (I'm standing on the pedestal in this picture haha). But I'm debating whether or not I want to add tulle off-shoulder sleeves/straps. Part of our theme is fairytale so I want my dress to be as princessy as possible, and I thought adding tulle sleeves would help! But I don't know if the dress would look better with or without it! So what do you ladies think would look best? Smiley heart

I love your dress!! When you go in for alterations, you can have them add the tulle straps and see if it adds/subtracts from your dress.

Ooh that looks lovely on you! I think the tulle straps would add the perfect amount of fairytale feel to it. To be sure, have someone hold a makeshift strap to the dress to see what it would look like

I just went in for my fitting and another bride had off the shoulder cap sleeves like that but in doing so, it limited her arm range of motion and she was concerned she wouldn’t be able to dance without raising her arms to put her hands around her hubby neck. Just something to think about when it comes to cap or off the shoulder sleeves.

I like it without the straps but I also think it would look good with them! Smiley smile but you look great in that dress and I think it fits your theme well Smiley smile I suggest having them play with the dress a little bit and they can show you what it would look like when they go to alter it!

As another poster said, straps like that can limit mobility. I'd ask about making the straps removable. One other thought, are you planning to use the excess material from the skirt? I'd avoid using any other new material since it potentially won't match.

Your dress is gorgeous! I got the off the shoulder cap sleeves and had my doubts but when I put it on I was thrilled. Here are pics before and after alterations. My cap sleeves have enough room that they can be raised to my shoulders for mobility if I want.

I was just at my dress appointment on Thursday and the consultant brought up the idea of removable straps. You could get them added for the ceremony and if they’re bugging you or limiting your range of motion, unbutton them and take them off for the reception. I think your dress is gorgeous as is and the straps will be very pretty too!

Yay thank you so much!! Smiley laugh absolutely! If I do straps, I plan on using the tulle from my skirt as the straps so it matches

I was concerned about that as well! Thank you for bringing that up. Originally I thought I wanted off-shoulder full sleeves but I realized that would significantly decrease my range of motion haha! I definitely do want full range of motion so I'm taking all that into consideration Smiley smile

Your dress is very pretty and seems to be just the look you’re going for! I think the tulle straps could add just a bit more of a princess feel and would be a great fit.

Thank you very much! Smiley laugh I will do that! I really look forward to seeing it with straps! I do like it without straps too though, it's a tough decision but I'm sure once I see it with some mock straps it'll be easier to decide!

Omg Peggy your dress is gorgeous! I LOVE it with the straps! Those are like exactly what I'm going for!Smiley love That's awesome that they were roomy enough for you to move your arms around, if I go with straps, I'll definitely make sure they are loose enough to move them around.

If the right person Alters your dress and you add sleeves they should make them to where they are removable if you need them to be. but I believe that your sleeves will make your dress a little bit more Fairytale looking, btw your dress is beautiful.

I agree! The dress is already pretty simple, but the skirt (which will have a large petticoat underneath for extra volume) makes it pretty dramatic. Yet I still want that little extra touch that makes it stand out a little more. I agree that I think sleeves would do the trick. Thank you!Smiley heart

Removable straps? Smiley love I LOVE that idea! I also love the idea of wearing it for the ceremony and then for pictures, and taking them off at the reception so I can dance! FH and I are doing a choreographed first dance so it would be good for me to have full range of motion. Thank you for letting me know! Smiley laugh
