Hi! My FH and I are shopping for his wedding ring. I've read that lately a lot of people decided to buy tungsten instead of gold. Tungsten rings are cheaper than gold and FH is leaning toward the cheaper one bc he's saying that its unnecessary to spend the additional money for something that looks similar and that he doesn't care about the type of metal. He's saying all that maters is the symbolism. While I think that's cute and all, since thankfully money is not really an issue for us I'd rather invest in something that will keep its value in the long run and can be maybe passed down. What do you guys think? Pros and cons??

I just got my FH what he wants. I know he didn't have a second thought about getting me the ring that would make me happiest.

My FH's ring is gold, but his job isn't one where he has to worry about damaging it. If its a lot of physical labor, Tungsten is better.

Take into consideration his job/lifestyle. If he works with his hands or enjoys rugged/sporty activities, go with Tungsten. It's more durable.

FH originally wanted white gold, but decided he wanted a simple white-gold-looking tungsten band after learning it was cheaper (he hates spending money) and that it'd be more functional for his job (in the Navy) and his love of outdoor activities. Con is that if they hadn't sized his finger right, there'd be no way to resize and we'd need a whole new ring...I'm guessing we'll eventually need to replace it, but it was budget-friendly, so we're not worried about it.

We were between tungsten and titanium. We found tungsten is harder but also brittle so we ended up with titanium and he loves it. He added a wood inlay and a blue anodized interior. It wasn't super cheap($320), but looks way cooler than a plain gold ring we would have gotten for the same price. And it's completely custom. He chose koa wood and the sandblasted finish. ETA the place we got ours will make him a new one if he ever changes ring size for free.

My FH wanted a gold band until we went to look at some rings at a jeweler and he insisted on a ring that happened to be tungsten. He loves it so much and can't wait to wear it. I've even seen him take it out for a trial run and wear it around the house.

My FH actually preferred a tungsten ring! So that's what I got him! It looks just like a white gold ring for wayyyyy cheaper! FH is a cop so he didn't want to risk losing an expensive ring at work!

Get him what he likes. Tungsten is weaker than titanium and DHs wasn't that much more expensive for the titanium.

We had this struggle too because the gold rings he liked were so expensive. I thought they'd be like 200$ lol. We thought about going with tungsten but decided against it because they can't be resized. They said they will trade you for a new size if you ever need but we wanted to be able to have the original ring for sentimental reasons if it needed to be resized. We ended up finding a white gold one at kays he loved so we went with that.

My FH is also on the Tungsten wagon. He is purchasing 2 of the same band, one 1/2 smaller since they can't be sized. He will have the extra one in his pocket on our wedding day. I, too, wished he used gold or platinum but he loves his and the durability can't be beat. Makes him happy so that's the one.

My wife and I went with silicone actually. I'm a barista and my wife works in medicine so it was way more practical for both of us. Silicone is heat resistant, can break be sanitized, can break without taking skin with it in case of emergencies (it getting hooking on something or smashed). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DX1BE02/ref=twister_B06ZZD7WB1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Surprisingly, FH has lots of opinions on his ring. He wants white gold and with inscription in his native language. So that's what I'll be getting!

We 100% wanted gold. We hated that you can't resize tungsten and if anything ever happened to it, it'd have to be replaced fully. Not a big deal because they're inexpensive, but seemed wasteful and silly to me - if we can help it, I'd love for him to be able to wear HIS ring that I gave him forever. He also spent a ton of money on my ring so I wanted to get him something nice - he picked out a brushed rose gold ring.

Thank you guys for all your input! We actually went to buy him a ring and we chose white gold! He saw a ring that he loved so that helped! And since he works in the tech company we don't have to worry about too many scratches Smiley smile

My FH is getting gold too. He just wants a very simple yellow gold band and wants to call it a day lol. We'll have spent a decent amount on my rings so I'm down for whatever he wants and we'll make it work.

We got a black tungsten; my husband is very frugal and simple. He liked the cost ($20 onamazon) and the look

FH bought tungsten. Our jewler said it has a life tine warranty. So besides the price $300 and look, that was a major selling point.
