Turning your cake into a holiday ornament

Jillian, on June 18, 2015 at 3:29 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

This idea is floating around on pinterest where you can turn pictures of your wedding cake into an ornament keepsake out of clay or something. The main company when you click on the picture on pinterest is Aberrant Ornaments, but the cost ranges from $160-$300. After a google search a couple other companies/Etsy shops have come up that do this as well. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so, how was the quality and what company did you use?

eta: more details: you send pictures of your cake to the company and they make a replica in the form of an ornament for a Christmas tree, or whatever you'd like to do with it. The other companies I saw were around $75.00, not sure the etsy seller as you need to e-mail it first. I just wouldn't want to go with a cheaper company and have the quality be poor.

Following...I really want to do this but haven't looked into it yet. And it won't happen at that price.

Wait.......turn your wedding cake into an ornament? Surely not, like, the actual physical cake? What is this?

    With Randi...I'm thoroughly confused.

Isn't year-old cake in the freezer gross enough?

It's a model of your cake--so the fimo clay or whatever.

I only saw the $200 price tag and went "eh"

@ Randi - I update my original post to explain more. The company uses pictures of your cake and makes a replica!

Thanks Valerie - I did see that one and it's much less! That's what prompted me to make the post. I wondered if anyone had used any of these companies specifically and how it turned out.

Ohhh. Huh, interesting. Not sure how I feel about it? It's a cute idea though.

ETA - just saw your edit. Thanks for the explanation, Jillian! Smiley smile

Might be a fun project to try to DIY? As a Christmas gift for FH or something?

I just had the idea that we could maybe turn our cake topper into an ornament though... that'd be a good excuse to take it out and look at it every year. Smiley smile

I think I may try the company that's $75.00 for 4 tiers. I've thrown away that for a lot stupider things. If I decide to do it, once I get it, I'll post how it came out!

That sounds like a recipe for mice in your storage area. How do they even do that?

Why not just add a loop to your cake topper? Or buy an ornament that has "Just Married 2015" (or your year) on it? Much less than $160.

I think it's awesome, but even for $75 I can't justify the expense!
