Hi all! Should the Bride go to the tux fitting for the groom?

I think this is very much personal preference. I did not go with my now-husband, but he regularly wears suits for his job and so he didn't really need any support or opinions on the fit. If he never wore suits and wanted my thoughts, of course I would have gone with him, if he'd asked me.

My husband actually cheekily told me that if he couldn't see the dress until the day, I couldn't see the suit - although he did actually try his tux on for me when he brought it home, haha.

I went with my fiancé! He asked me to go because the process seemed overwhelming to him, and I got to pick a tux that not only looks great on him, but compliments my dress!

I agree that it’s a personal decision. I went to the initial meeting to help pick the color, tie, etc. but the only thing he tried on was a jacket for sizing. When he did the groom try on he went alone so I would be surprised on the wedding day.

My Fiance has never worn a tux before and I want to help him, but I also want to be surprised just as much as he will be with my dress. I'm torn. My stepfather told me I should be there to make sure it goes with my colors/dress, but I don't know!!!

My fiancé said also If he can't see me in my dress then I can not see him in his tux.

Fiancé had a custom suit made and he asked me to go to ensure color selection, fit and style was to my liking.

There aren't any superstitions around you seeing him in his outfit, so it's up to you if you want to go or not. I went with my fiancé to make sure the colors were right, but I let him pick the cut of the tux, bowties vs regular ties, etc. He tried on a jacket and pants separately, so I really didn't see what the completed look would be like.

I went to the initial meeting for color, style, etc, but I probably won't go to his fitting. I am going for my son and our ring bearers fittings though.

I did not go to the first appointment to pick it out with him but I did go to the tailoring appointment when he also picked his shirt color, shoes, and tie.

For reference, my husband never wears a suit and was nervous. Also, if I had not been there then he WOULD have come home with the wrong color tie. His first choice was a bright peacock blue whereas our wedding colors were navy blue and white.

Ha ha... I guess I'm a control freak because I didn't give my fiancé' a choice. I said "here's your appointment... time to go". And he went. :-)

Generally, if he's having something tailor made, they have the standard suits with their various differences (lapel width, cut etc), and then bring out a box of fabrics for you to pick from, so you wouldn't actually see him in the suit he'd have at the end. Some rental places have the same thing, but with like, a catalogue of the colours you can pick from so again, you wouldn't see the final suit.

If he's buying straight off the rack you would, but he isn't going to look the same as he will on the day anyway - the same way that you'd look totally different with your hair, makeup, dress, veil, bouquet, etc - he's going to have all those little details too. The cufflinks, the shirt, the tie, the shoes - all of that will make his outfit special on the day. Honestly if this is your main concern, I don't think it would spoil anything to go with him to his first appointment, but I wouldn't bother going to the fitting.
