Two officiants - script examples

Summerbride77, on July 16, 2018 at 6:05 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12

Hello! So as part of a compromise with my parents, we're likely to have two officiants: the good friend who introduced us and a more traditional non-religious officiant. Does anyone have script examples or personal experience so we can more easily picture what this would look like?

Thanks!

Were planning on having my FH godfather start off the ceremony and an officiant to actually marry us. Not sure how this will go but wanted the personal touch! I’m curious what other people did!

Our JP sent us many different samples of Ceremonies he did. I went through them all and created my own with a very very basic Ceremony that will only be between 8-15mins. If you want I can see if I still have some of them and post them for you ladies.

Hi Katherine! I have seen wedding ceremonies where there have been more than one officiant and it flows just fine! Usually, one officiant started with the introduction of the ceremony & it transitioned to the other doing the second half. It's up to you, which one does which part of the ceremony, given their relationship with you.

Are you considering having your friend who introduced you and your FS tell the story of how you both came to know each other? Smiley smile

That's the idea. We would love our friend to do most of the ceremony, with the traditional officiant coming in at the end to 'make things official' - it's really important to my mom otherwise our friend would be doing the whole thing. I'm just a little worried that having a different officiant come in just at the end is going to be awkward so looking for ideas on flow.

Makes perfect sense Smiley smile And I really don't think it will be awkward. Your guests should be able to see that the first person, your friend, is someone close to you through what he/she will be saying & how he/she is introducing you and your fiancé. From there, "handing the baton" to the 2nd officiant, who will stand at this time or move forward, will make it clear & transition seamlessly into the "official" parts of the officiating of the ceremony. As if they're sharing roles as the host & officiant of your wedding ceremony. Smiley heart I hope this helps!
