Twogether In Texas

jenna_, on June 6, 2014 at 12:54 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 6

I'm looking into premarital classes to see if I can find one that FH and I can attend. I not only want to do this for the marriage license discount we can get when we get to that point (hey, it's $60 off) but I've been interested in taking a class anyway. Not because I think we have problems we need to work though, I actually think that our relationship is very healthy, it just never hurts, y'know?

I'm trying to find a free one, for one thing, because I know they're out there and it would be stupid to pay for a class and cancel out the discount I'm getting. Haha.

Anyone in Texas do this? Anyone in Houston have any recommendations on classes? I'm looking at twogetherintexas.com and they have a big list but I have no idea how to choose one! Hoping someone has experience they can share. Smiley smile

We did but not intentionally. We went to a "Weekend to Remember" and found out while we were there that we get the $60 discount on the marriage license. "Weekend to Remember" wasn't free but they have two for one sales and we got emails for opportunities to get a refund if we volunteer at the event (work the cameras, sign people in, or work at the bookstore- stuff like that). We didn't volunteer but after seeing how the conference works I would have chosen to volunteer because it was really easy stuff to do. Oh- They're pretty faith based - not sure if that works for you or not.

There are two coming up in Sugarland....

Thanks for the info, Future Mrs. Pichon!

Yeah, I'm finding that the majority of the service providers are faith based and FH and I are... not religious at all. :/ I sent an email to Houston Family Services. I'm hoping they'll be able to help me with some information.

I was on the website and you can sort by "no fee" - not sure if that helps! There are facilitators that do Prepare-Enrich or FOCCUS that aren't faith based but there is usually a cost for those too. There should be more that are free because it can be really expensive!!

There was one that charged $900 for 10-55min. sessions. Haha. Dang! I mean, I can understand paying that, I guess, if you were having problems and it was serious business for you to need counseling or help. But I just want to go out of curiosity and to get a discount. I don't think we NEED to go so paying that amount is crazy. Hahaha.

Yea! That's about what I was finding when we were looking into pre-marital counseling. About $100/session. Some were more than that!! I was just about to give up but then we lucked out and the new church we started going to just asked for a donation to the church (no specified amount) and we were able to do the 'Weekend to Remember' during a two for one sale. FH was not looking forward to the sessions or the weekend retreat lol but now he's really glad we did them. We feel we had a pretty healthy relationship prior to the counseling but it was still really helpful.
