Tying the Knot Ceremony

Annie, on July 11, 2017 at 11:34 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Has anyone done a "tying the knot" ceremony within your ceremony? I'm wanting to incorporate this into our overall ceremony and would like to know where you did it within the ceremony?

Yes, we did the Fisherman's Knot. We did it after we exchanged vows and rings and right before we were pronounced husband and wife and had our first kiss.

I always do my handfastings (or any other ritual element except the glass breaking or the broom jump) after the vows and before the pronouncement.

We're doing the fisherman's knot! It will be after vows and rings, before the pronouncement.

My cousin did this, and she did it right before the vows i believe, but she is fairly religious and wanted the vows and rings to be fairly late.

I'm just going to add that you really want to practice tying the fisherman's knot ahead of time. We kept putting off learning to tie it, so we didn't even attempt it with our practice ropes until after the RD. We were not able to find online tutorials that made it easy to learn, and fortunately one if the GM was a former Marine who knew his knots and was able to teach us and make it look easy.

DH still had everyone in the edge of their seats during the ceremony because he started the knot 10 different times before finishing his half and he ended up leaving me a little stub of rope to tie my half with. I had to use the long strand I was just supposed to hold on to and pull at the end. You can tell in the pictures that DH's cousin (the Marine GM) was concerned.

@BlueHenBride, Thanks for the heads up. My FH is in the navy and I'd like to incorporate little touches, nothing crazy, and I thought tying the knot would be a cool way to do it. I'll make sure we practice this a few times prior to the wedding day!
