Type A person starting wedding planning

Carissa, on April 3, 2021 at 10:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

My now FIANCE(!!) proposed literally yesterday, so we are freshly engaged as can be. As the title says, I am the most type-A, obsessively planning and organizing person ever. Like, I want to get it all planned and set in stone like, tomorrow. Which is not realistic, I know, but I've always joked that between the engagement and the wedding, I won't ever sleep because I'll be busy planning 24/7.

Please tell me there are others like this on here? How did you make yourself breathe and pace yourself? Admittedly, I often find I am so worried about planning anything (vacations, parties, etc) that I don't allow myself to enjoy the experience because I'm so focused on doing point A, B, C, etc on time. I do NOT want my engagement period to be something I plan to death and can't enjoy.

Thank you! Smiley heart

Congrats!!! 🎉 Breathe. 🧘‍♀️ As another Type-A bride, it can be helpful to give yourself more than a year to plan so you can enjoy being engaged the first few months.

When you’re ready, your first big decisions to make as a couple: budget, estimated guest list size, venue.
And in the end, to keep yourself from going crazy, know that guests only care about 1) climate (not being too hot/cold, 2) good food/drinks, 3) a fun time. Nobody cares or notices decor details so don’t stress or over-spend. 😉

Congratulations! First, the best advice I can give is to honestly accept the fact your wedding will be perfectly imperfect. Things will go wrong, and you need to just practice acceptance and go with the flow. Once you're ready to really jump into wedding planning, figure out a budget and approximate guest list, and then start looking at venues. Wedding Wire and the Knot (which I preferred) have checklists which help to keep you on track. Honestly, as exciting (and stressful) as wedding planning is, try to remain focused on the big picture-you're marrying your love in front of your closest friends and family. The decor, the dress, and so on all pale in comparison to that.

Congratulations! My fiancé proposed yesterday (April 3rd!) too! We’re planning early 2023 but I’m already planning so you’re not alone!

Make an entirely separate email for the wedding. One you BOTH can access.

It will save you SUCH a headache.

Kindred spirit here! Set aside 1 designated day/time each week to discuss wedding planning with your fiancé, and make it fun if you can (get takeout, some wine, whatever). At first I would ask my fiancé for input or give him updates as I go, but I quickly realized he was getting overwhelmed and burnt out, and started to complain that we always talk about the wedding. Now we can have a productive discussion about week's progress and enjoy normal life the rest of the week.

Type a here too! I am 33 and i have been planning my wedding since i was 16!! Lol always wanted to be married but didnt have a boyfriend til 2.5 years ago, and we got engaged dec 21, 2020 and getting married May 8, 2021! I had my custom dress already in the works early 2020 and most things organized through this app with budgeting/checklist and slowly bought things i needed for custom invites and priced everything out ahead of time, so all we had to do once engaged was to just finalize the food, church, photographer, and create our playlists and send out invites. Future husband has been enjoying helping with table decor/ and the theme it’s been such a fun time with him!!
