Uber Events? Thoughts?

Its_Rebby, on February 21, 2018 at 11:52 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi everyone! Our wedding will be in downtown Columbus, OH. I am completely shocked at the price of shuttle services/buses/limos. All i want to do is make sure my guests have a way to get to and from the hotel and venue. Has anyone tried Uber Events? It seems like a WAY more reasonable price option and then if half of my guests end up driving themselves- I didn't pay $2000 for a bus. We seem to have a lot of uber drivers in the Columbus area. Any experience with this?

Have you looked into school buses? That’s what most of our friends have done and it’s fairly inexpensive. I haven’t used Uber events but from what I’ve heard you choose an amount and send an email code to your guests for them to use.

I have used this for corporate events and it works great. You just give your guest the code and they use it. You set the amount you are willing to spend for them as well.

There is no way that my older guests would even know what that was or even use it.

Unless you have chosen a venue that is isolated with no hotels nearby, I don't think couples need to take on this responsibility.

There is no other evening event where transportation is provided. People go out for drinks, dinner and the theater all the time and make their own arrangements.

When I travel I rent a car or use a taxi, Lyft or Uber.

Hmm..I just checked this out and it looks like a really great option, about $10 per round-trip ride. And most people can double-up if they'd like.

We had actually just put codes on our wedding website for free rides with Uber and Lyft just off of the code that was given through the app. But, I really like this. I'm not too keen on paying for transportation, just because we're all adults and have managed to be responsible in the past. I wouldn't expect, or even use, buses or shuttles if it were an option at a wedding, but I would definitely use and appreciate this option. I say go for it!

    My thoughts exactly.

If you're stuck on providing transportation, this might be the best option. But we're all grown adults who can provide our own transportation. I wouldn't stress about it.

Where are you getting married at? I know some areas downtown don’t have great parking buy if you aren’t in the short north you shouldn’t have an issue on the weekend. I think most could do Uber, taxi or cota if they really don’t want to drive and depending on the hotel they stay at some of those shuttle their guests for free. If you don’t have the budget don’t worry about paying for their transportation that’s part of being a guest

This is making me nervous. We were planning on having shuttles circulate between the hotel and venue, but we haven't reached out for pricing as yet Smiley sad Sounds like Uber might be the way to go

If it is more responsible, go for Uber Events! Since our hotel is near an airport, Uber events will be much more expensive than a transportation company. I've used Uber Events for work functions and it has been good. BUT, I would caution that older guests may not know how to use the service and ultimately wind up arriving later or getting frustrated and finding other transportation (from work experience)

I considered this and it's probably a great idea if you're downtown, unfortunately we'll be out in the boonies and I don't think we can count on Uber. Also consider the average age of the guests you're worried about transport for - if this is so friends your age can drink, Uber would work great, but if you're worried about your grandparents and older family members getting around safely, this probably won't help much.

Did you end up doing it? I'm still on the fence about getting Uber Events and I'm wondering if it was worth it for you.

Our venue has limited parking, and guest may have a hard time finding parking as it is right on the beach in Malibu, CA. I am torn between paying for valet or Uber vouchers. I am leaning more towards encouraging hotel guests to Uber and pay their own rides and providing vouchers for guests who are driving from OC.

Is Uber Events restricted to Businesses only? How do you use this for a wedding?
