Uber for wedding transportation??

Karen G, on June 1, 2015 at 4:38 PM

So I just heard of a couple that used Uber as their transportation for the wedding party and even guests to and from the reception/hotel. Has anyone done this? Or looked into it? I'm wondering how it works.

I would suggest uber to guests but I wouldn't use it myself. I don't trust the fact they raise their rates during "peak times" (sometimes to astronomical rates!), and sometimes they can run really late!

This is an interesting thought. In particular my venue is one block away from the host hotel where we will be getting ready. On a normal day I would walk but in my bridal get up something like Uber could be helpful

Do you have to sign up for them or down load an app on your phone? Im in Minnesota and I know they have them but not sure if they have the blackcar or suv service..or discounts for wedding related travel.

This is NWR, but do you feel safe with Uber at night by yourself? I've been paying $10 to park my car at the train station and I get back at 10 pm and have to walk through the downtown garage by myself which is creepy. Wondering if Uber would be cheaper and/or safer?

I have never had an issue with a driver making me feel uncomfortable! If they did, you can submit a complaint directly through the app. Also, uber corporate does pretty extensive background checks. I've been using uber since its pilot programs several years ago and have never had any issues honestly.

I saw this post and got secretly excited thinking it would be a good option. I use Uber sporadically and always good service. Although, the kicker is I am getting married in the suburbs of Houston so am apprehensive about "winging it". I am going to look into reserving in advance.

@Danielle W. I don't know which suburb you're getting married in, but I know for a fact, Sugar Land is ALWAYS crawling with uber cars during the day. I check the app while I'm at work and I don't understand why, but I guess business people use them to go to lunch or home? I'm not sure. So if I were you I would just check the area of the wedding for a few weeks and see if there are cars crawling or if it's empty. Also I'm sure if you set something up through Uber, they would let their drivers know that that area might be a good option to drive during this time.

Seeing a lot of negatives about price-gouging (going up 200%!) on the Uberblack cars during high-demand times. May want to be sure this is the way you want to go before you commit.

Hmm, I don't know. Uber is usually in a person's car and you'd probably have to coordinate several drivers to fit everyone. Could be a mess, especially if one Uber shows up, and then it takes forever for the other one to show, for example.

I am so excited that you brought this up! this was my plan but you made me decide to google it and i saw a post where if you contact them before hand you can create a code for your guests to use and they can get $20 off their first ride. i need to do more research but that would be great!

Jackie, it looks like you might be near BWI. I'm out near Dulles and there are plenty of Ubers around here because of the airport. It might take slightly longer to get to you than if you were downtown, but they will come. When we've called them in Ashburn/Leesburg it takes maybe 15 minutes.

Has anyone actually used Uber for their wedding? I tried to set up the code but haven't gotten any kind of confirmation from Uber. I was hoping to give a code to my guests to use getting home from the reception. Wondering if I should just give up on this. Thanks!

For airport transportation it's probably awesome but I was at an event that used it for guest transportation and it was a nightmare. 100 intoxicated people all trying to get a ride at once. There must have been 30 cars smashed in there and people were getting the wrong cars. Do not recommend at all. People hated it

This is a great idea depending on how many people and having it planned out. I know at my sisters wedding, it was in a weird part of Chicago (industrial/work area. no street life or anything), and basically all guests were calling uber at once, so it was kind of a nightmare trying to A. just get uber to the venue B. getting enough drivers. I think if she had worked with uber before hand it would have gone better, but I don't think she did. I will check with her. Myself, my parents, and my now fiance, were the last ones waiting making sure everyone else got a ride, so we ended up waiting in kind of shady/creepy area hoping a uber would find us!

We are having our venue at Cedar Bend Events, outside of Austin a little ways east of the airport and I'm trying to figure out transportation since the only hotel that is close is pretty pricey. The other options are Bastrop and Austin. (or Airbnb). And all of our guests will be out of town/state so I don't think it would be cost effective...or tangible to get all the guests to and from....so maybe a bus would be better for us (sorry, thinking/writing out loud to my self)
