Uber transportation

Kaitlyn, on November 14, 2019 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hey guys.
I’m getting married in Savannah Georgia. Everyone will be staying in historical Savannah while our wedding is about 25 minutes away. Everyone but one family will be traveling to come here so not everyone will have cars. I’ve looked into different transportations but people have recommended using Uber & doing a group. I’m not sure how this work. Do we pay for the total at the end? Would the guest pay as they come and go? I’m just confused and would like some help!

You can set up an Uber event and it's basically a code for the guests to use and you'd probably only be paying for the rides they actually take plus some associated fees to it.

Lyft does it too! One of them (I can't remember which does which) you pay a lump sum up front and then whatever doesn't get used they give back. The other one you only pay for what is taken, the day of. Basically, you register for the event and they give you a code that you then give to the guests, and you can set it up in multiple different ways. For example, if you estimate the ride will cost about 20 bucks, you can set it so each guest can use up to 20 or 25 on their ride, that way if they wanna go somewhere else they pay the difference (like stop somewhere else after the wedding, etc.). It is very cool! I would go to the uber event site and the lyft event site, they break it down for you and it is pretty easy to understand and see the differences.

How many guests do you have? It may be cheaper/easier to rent a school bus or a couple of passenger vans. That's another option to consider. We rented a school bus, and it worked out well.

    Hey Kaitlyn!

I would definitely check out both Uber and Lyft’s event services to see what would work best for you. If you are still having trouble getting all of your questions answered, you could contact their customer service team to clarify everything before committing to using it for your wedding.

I'm not sure how Uber/Lyft group works but I'm sure those will not be cheap Uber/Lyft's for your guests. If it is $25 each way that's $50 roundtrip. Did you offer a hotel near your venue and they are choosing to stay elsewhere? I would offer complimentary transportation if you don't have a closer hotel option. If you did offer a closer hotel option then yes let them choose to pay the larger Uber/Lyft fare however, if you didn't offer anything closer it would be polite/courteous to offer free transportation.
