Ubers are Not a Thing Where We Are

Jennifer, on March 25, 2022 at 7:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Ubers are not a thing where we are (Eureka Springs, AR). We sent our Save the Dates and guests have been texting me how excited they are and how they are getting an Airbnb with other guests away from our reception area (Crescent Hotel). I’ve had to tell them that Ubers are just not a thing here and that they would need a designated driver if they plan on staying outside of the reception venue.

It seems that everyone expects Ubers are a thing everywhere and that’s just not true here. For those that have been in this situation, what advice do you have for:1. Making sure guests have the expectation that there are NO ride shares2. Finding alternatives for our guests. Taxi service is not reliable here. The latest local taxi stops at 10 PM. That’s when our reception ends.
Also, is it my responsibility to get guests back safe to their accommodations outside of the hotel that I’ve recommended for them to stay at?

I suggest mentioning on your wedding website that there are no rideshares in the area and encourage people to plan accordingly. In my experience, it's not common practice to arrange transportation from various Airbnbs to your venue - that just sounds like a logistical nightmare. Of course, if the town really is pretty small and you could set up a shuttle "bus route" that kind of follows where people are staying, that could be something to set up so long as your budget can afford it. I still think that's excessive and most people should be able to identify a designated driver so long as they know ahead of time that rideshare or taxi is not possible.

My fiancé and I talked about and the most we can do is add an insert in the invitation, mention on the website, and email/text our guests about the No ride share situation and to plan accordingly. He’s even going out of his way to hire the ONE guy that does a taxi service and to buy him out for the nights of our welcome dinner and the reception to only take calls from our guests.

The thing is, our venue hotel per night is the same price as like a 3 bedroom Airbnb with a beautiful view like 5-10 miles away. It’s like, why would you stay at the hotel? These are 99% city folks, who expect Ubers just to be around, so I’m betting they didn’t even check the transportation situation when booking their accommodation (even though I mentioned on the website that there are no Ubers). I don’t really blame them because I’ve never done that either when booking accommodations except when I book a place internationally.

This may sound harsh but, at the end of the day, you've warned them on numerous occasions. They're adults and will need to figure it out 🤷‍♀️.

You’re right. That’s what my fiancé says, too. I’m not sure why I’m worrying about it.
