Ugh nails and not being able to go to the salon because of Coronavirus

Kari, on May 29, 2020 at 2:10 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 12

Our minimony is tomorrow. I never wear nail polish (the last time I did was in high school, so at least 16 years ago) and because nail salons are closed I tried to do my own nails and am so sad about how they came out. I literally wouldn't care if it were any other event but its my wedding and I just wanted my hands to look nice because of the rings. I'm so sad and disappointed.

Maybe if it isn't too late, you can go to the store and buy a little nail kit? they have ones where you just press on or stick a sticker or gem, etc.

but honestly no one will notice your nails unless you are doing ring photos. i like the color!

Yea I don't know I just feel like I have no idea what I am doing. If I could go to a salon I would have just gotten a french manicure but I clearly don't have the skill set to do that myself so I tried to find a nude-pink color that would look pretty natural (it's Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in "Bare it All"). I might see what press-ons Target has in stock (one of the few stores actually open), I'm just worried they will be too long and bulky and feel weird. Ugh I'm just freaking out because I'm so disappointed by how lonely my wedding has become, and it's just so different than what I wanted it to be. I probably have like a dozen women who could do my nails for me but they can't come within 6 feet of me, let alone touch me. The ONE day I care what my hands look like...

Why is it so hard to try to look pretty? Beauty standards are impossible. I hate Covid-19.

Definitely go for some press-ons! They are available in different lengths, and the ones by imPRESS seem to be closer to a manicure length!

Yes on press ons and I also recommend impress! They have the sticker already so they’re really easy to put on.

I spent my afternoon watching YouTube nail videos. I’m also terrible with nail polish.

They had a lot of great tips. It helped me achieve this look on my non dominate hand. Not perfect, but a ton better than what it usually looks like.

It’s not too late! And early congrats!

I exclusively use imPRESS nails. I usually get a weeks wear out of them. These are the ones I had for my bridal shower, and the ones I wore for the wedding were similar, but pointed with pearls. They also have plain colored, or sparkly ones.

They look fine to me! If it makes you feel any better, I got my nails done professionally and you can’t really see them in the majority of photos anyway. It’s a nice thing to have them done but it’s such a minor detail! Most people (and photos) won’t be seeing them from up close so they’ll look great from a distance.

Enjoy your day! Congratulations Smiley smile

Do you have a friend you could ask to come repaint them? I know I hate painting my left nails (left handed) and because home polish never lasts long I hate when they’re chipped and hate the effort of having to clean them only a few days later. All that wasted effort means o don’t do my nails often. I actually think they look pretty good, but I know I would be super critical of mine myself. So see if a friend could come over and help.

I'm a chronic nail picker and in the same boat! I can't stand extravagant and extremely fake looking nails, so I'm opting for short, natural looking nails for the shape and clean look. I have a set picked out from Target that are like $10!

Thank you all for the tips, comfort, and advice. I survived. Adding a top coat helped with some unevenness and the entire weekend was so crazy anyway my nails ended up being one of the minor concerns. In the end, we got married and are so happy we did but I'm really hoping things are better for the "redo" next year.
