Ugly BM Dresses

Is it just a myth or do brides sometimes pick hideous dresses/colors just to secure the "prettiest and most important" person at the wedding spot? I never really believed it happened until the last wedding I went to were the BM were dressed in a truly awful shade of yellow that "matched the decor" but made all the women look washed out and splotchy. The bride had to know that NO ONE could possibly look good in those dresses. It's simply impossible to assume she did it on accident.

Any opinions/ stories/ ect?

That is just horrible that anyone would ever think of intentionally making anyone close to them look bad just so that they look better. I personally am giving my girls the color and letting them choose. I will just have veto power haha

Mrs. Williams- it was so, so humid and hot, and the dress was so heavy!

Mrs S- Oh dear, what did yours look like?!

That first picture ~ straight out of the early to mid '70's....I wore a green gingham dress to a wedding in 1975....yes ~ I'm that old.....and green and yellow were a popular color combination ....

The 2nd one ~ looks like something from " My Big Gypsy Wedding " or whatever it is called.

There are so many cute dresses available now, that there is no excuse for fugly Bridesmaid dresses. But just remember , the cutest style , still won't be pretty in pomegranate and pucie !

I would never put my girls in something ugly... in the long run, it would make my photos looks back and I'd be left with a group of really unhappy bridesmaids.

I chose the designer, fabric and color and told the girls to order what they wanted and were comfortable in. I went with each girl to the salon when they picked out their dresses and everyone was much happier that way. They each have a dress that they personally selected and they are all going to look gorgeous on the wedding day.

I think some brides really are insecure, but mostly it's a case of, "It's MY DAY and you'll wear WHAT I WANT YOU TO WEAR!" (which I've read on this forum plenty of times, I always imagine a flip of a pigtail and a foot stomp along with it). In theory, yes, but in practice your friends get sick of being stomped on and ignored, and you'll find yourself pretty lonely once the wedding is over.

There's a point where you decide which matters more: your vision of your day, or the people who make up that day. Better to give the BMs more control over what they wear, vs. less.

That said, my worst BM dress was in my ex-SIL's wedding. It was black, heavy floor length taffeta with loads of crinolines. In Alabama. In September. We were all boiling hot, decided to cool off with Bloody Marys, and the bridesmaids were all passed out cold by 6 pm. Plus, that dress cost me $300 plus alterations and was completely not rewearable.

My BMs wore black cocktail dresses of their choice. Smiley smile

Late but what bothers me about bridesmaid's dresses is that most places you go, the dresses are hideous. They're only a one color sheet meant to make the bridesmaids, just part of the decoration instead of complementing the bride's dress. ugh.
