So my wedding is a little under a year away and due to lack of available venues in my area we picked somewhere cheaper knowing we could spend more money on decorations. The walls are ugly and have red curtains on them, and my colors (coral and navy blue) will clash. I've recently been looking into building my own "walls" with large white drapes, since i would only need to cover one or two sides, I've seen a lot about pvc pipe and I'm thinking that might be a good way to go. However the walls are like 18 feet tall. Wondering if anyone has any experience in creating there own walls. or any advice in hiding ugly venue walls! Thank you

My reception venue has some ugly colored curtains too. I bought the Lill net curtains from Ikea, they're $5. I'm just going to place them over the ugly ones and add lights to them.

I don't thin its that bad! I don't think I would even notice. I think you could literally just leave it as is. If its really bothering you, try the up lighting.

Hello, Stephanie. I have almost the same problem. Our area looks just like yours only the ugly curtain is green and across the main stage that can't be moved. I rented one drape wall from a local event rental place for not a lot of money - trust me I am a cheapskate. The rest of the walls are brown and not too bad but not great. That part I'm just going to deal with. To a certain extent I can get on board with "it's not about the walls" but I also don't want a cheap-a$$ Bridezilla wedding. Our wedding is in the day time and we're not doing a bunch of lights either so I can understand if that's your situation, too. Best of luck to you.

Maybe you could bring attention to that ugly wall in a good way. Just an idea, but what about putting lots of pictures of you and your fiance with some floral string or just a couple strands of inexpensive string-lights or something like that? Maybe you would need just a little less materials. Just an idea. I like to help people solve problems.

Consider changing your colors, I don't see Coral and Navy working in there. You're getting married in October, there are a lot of beautiful color schemes in the fall that can work with that velvet red. Consider gold, maybe... something more "timeless" than the current Coral trend.

Coral & Navy makes me think Summer anyways.... it's very very nautical.

I agree with KD. If you change your colors to work with the space you will also save money. I would do reds, navy, golds and that marsala color would really work in that space

Uplighting is a great idea. Although you said they 'don't really' want the curtains taken down. I'm a huge pain the butt, unless you tell me definitely not, I'll push. So, I would just nag about the curtains until they either tell you it's an impossibility, or they write in your contract they'll take them down for your event. (My FH cringes everytime I don't get my way. I'm not a b*tch about it, but I will nag and push and wear people down. I talked my way through security once at Comic Con to get my daughters namesake on the phone with her....my philosophy is until you hear a definitive no, it's always possible).

I can see why you might be worried because the curtains that you hate are everywhere. However.... uplighting is like magic. It will really take care of it for you. And honestly since the curtains will block out the natural light, the uplighting is going to be very powerful in the room no matter what time of day it is. Uplighting will change it to whatever color you want.

But if i truly bothers you I am like Jennifer, push. It is your day and even if they don't really want to...doesn't mean they can't.
