Unchained Melody

Chelsie, on August 4, 2015 at 2:59 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

I asked my dad what song he would like to dance to, and he said Unchained Melody. Is this weird for a dad/ daughter dance? Honest opinions please!

I have to be honest. I would be imagining the ghost love scene the entire time.

    Honestly, yes, it's not a father-daughter song.

I thought of Ghost too, but maybe the song has some other meaning for him... some memory?

Maybe do an instrumental version? The lyrics aren't totally appropriate, but most ppl won't be playing a lot of attention to the dances, anyway. I'm assuming if your Dad is around my Dad's age, then this song is sort of THE slow song of his generation. . .it's a very pretty song, and some ppl may think of Ghost, but I bet a lot of ppl have their own personal memories tied to this song.

I was wondering about this too. The lyrics are not father/daughter type lyrics but I used to put my dad's righteous brothers record on and play that song over and over. I would stand on the coffee table and my dad would dance and sing along with me. I love this song but wasn't sure how it would be perceived at my wedding.

Maybe have the DJ announce that you and your dad used to dance to this song when you were a little kid? I would think it was weird without an explanation, but really sweet with one since it's something that has sentimental meaning for you two.

I wouldn't say it's weird or inappropriate. I think the song has a lot to do with the person. This song for me and my dad was something we always sang; because he loved the Righteous Brothers and had every CD ever made. Also, this song was in a theatrical play that I was in for several years in a row "Remember the 60s". So, IMO I think this is a good song. Maybe it means something to your father. I always love things that are not "traditional". I say go for it, it's your day. Do what you want Smiley smile

It's not really a daughter and father song to be honest.
