Underwhelmed

Kreshelle, on May 13, 2020 at 9:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hello Ladies,

My wedding is exactly a year a way. I've already booked the venue. My MIL is making our centerpieces. I have picked out the bridesmaid dresses. I figure when we get closer I will pick out the DJ and photographer. Everyone keeps asking me how wedding planning is going and if I'm stressed, but I figured I'm basically done with everything. The only thing I need to do is my save the dates and my invitations. Am I missing something? Are there things I need to be doing that I'm not? I don't feel like there is more for me to do at this point.

Ha I think most people just don't know or remember the wedding planning process. I think the stress is usually the last few months. Deciding and choosing venue/vendors is such a fun time and I wasn't stressed at all! I think everyone is different and stress about different things!!

I figured hair and makeup would be something I would need to deal with closer to the day. I'm still on the fence about favors.

I was like this as well. I got everything done and decided pretty much everything right after we got engaged, and there was nothing else to do. I had a co-worker tell me that I will get stressed as it got closer (well, I am stressed now, but that's because of a pandemic and not because of actual wedding planning details...), saying that her niece hadn't thought of lots of things until the last minute.... like table numbers.... so she (my co-worker! not even her niece...) was going out the day before scrambling to get table numbers.... My venue has a detailed list and a laid out timeline... plus my own laid out timeline... that I'm not going to forget something like table numbers (besides, I am using the venue's table numbers, not my own!).

*shrug* I think it was easier for me because I honestly didn't care much about the details - the venue is nice, and the church is nice, and I'm going with pretty much what the venue looks like, as-is. My bridesmaids can wear whatever they want. I gave them a color, and they are picking the dresses, but even if they didn't like the color, I told them they can choose another one. I didn't care about flowers, etc.

Covid-19 really put a wrench in everything though!

I would definitely book your photographer and DJ soon especially because of Covid people are having to move their weddings until next year so vendors might not be available if you wait too long. Below I have included a whole list of things that you might still need.

    - wedding dress

    - shoes

    - jewelry/accessories

    - officiant

    - caterer (you didn't mention if your venue is providing the food)

    - groom and groomsmen attire

    - hair stylist and makeup artist

    - videographer if you want one

    - programs

    - seating chart or escort cards

    - guest book

    - card box

    - if you are having a unity ceremony the things for that

    - any other decor besides your centerpieces

    - bakery for cake

    - garter

    - gifts for bridal party and parents

    - getting ready outfits

    - dress and outfit for flower girl and ring bearer if you are having one

    - flower girl basket and ring bearer pillow

    - something old, new, borrowed and blue

    - if you want your nails done a place to get them done

    - if you need transportation

    - hotel for guests

    - place to host rehearsal dinner

    - favors

    - wedding bands

    - writing vows if you plan on writing your own

    - Signs

    - If you want a wedding website (we did so guests could find all of the information)

    - registry

    - welcome bags (we choose not to have them, but some people like them)

    - if you are hosting a welcome party, after party, or brunch where do you plan on having that

    - if you want any kind of special send off the things for that

    - honeymoon plans

    - cake topper

    - outfit for rehearsal dinner and bridal shower

    - day of emergency kit

    - marriage license (once you are closer to the wedding)

    - if you want anything throw at you when you during the recessional (some people like bubbles or confetti or something special like that)

    - veil

    - any special undergarments

    - if you want any type of lighting or monogram

    - cake knife and server

    - if you want or need an aisle runner

    - table numbers

    - cake stand

    - where are you, the bridesmaids, groom, and groomsmen getting ready

I’m like you! We just passed the one year mark and we have vendor booked, have my dress, engagement photos done, save the dates done, makeup/hair trials scheduled, rental company and planner meeting scheduled, and I have been doing a lot of little purchases for the big day! (BM robes, day of things, little details, etc.) if I were you I would focus on seating chart, signs (if you want them), floor plan, detailed day of timeline, & make a list of photography shots and family groupings for family pictures to make it organized!

If you’re not stressed enjoy! There’s no rule that you should be that I’m aware of. 😂 You’ll just get to enjoy dewy stress-free skin and beauty sleep. With the timeline tools on this app and the Knot I felt the same until COVID threatened things.

I think it’s good you’re not stressed aha why would you wanna be? I think just cause you’re not doesnt mean you’re not doing something right. I was the same way. I just kind of let the stress go cause I figured however it comes together will be ok anyway As long as I got married to my soulmate

I think you should book sooner rather than later. A lot of people are trying to book for next year right now and I've seen a lot of threads of people not being able to book their desired vendors because of the increased number of weddings that will happen next year. But not being stressed is a good thing! Don't let people stress you out because they think you should be stressed.
