Unedited videography

Gen, on September 17, 2018 at 10:43 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

For those of you who saw my post about whether or not to splurge on 3 hours of videography for about 1k... yay I found someone good who would film just the ceremony for $400!

The only catch is, the footage will be “unedited” (would have to pay an additional $450 to get it edited which is back to the same problem of being too much money). We mostly just care about having documentation of the ceremony, but I’m concerned about how it’ll come out if it’s not edited at all? Will the audio and visual even be linked together...?

Has anyone else gotten a videographer to give raw footage?

The audio and visual would definitely be linked. If you have iMovie on your mac (or I'm sure windows has a similar processor), it should be easy to string together your favorite parts so that you can share with your friends!

It's probably worth noting, though, that I graduated with a degree in journalism and did lots of video editing, so if this is completely unfamiliar territory to you, then that's a decision you need to make for yourself. I think it's easy, though.

I actually almost majored in film in college... changed my mind and did a complete 180 after freshman year, but I do have a year's worth of film classes under my belt so... while I'm by no means professional, I definitely have more experience editing than most.

They did say also we can always take the raw footage and even send it back to them in a year or two if we change our minds and pay the extra $450 to have it edited then, which is a nice option to have.

Knowing all of this, I would go for it. Who knows...you might get some extra cash at the wedding to be able to have it edited later on if you try it and don't love what you come up with.

    That's what I figure too.

The only thing making me hesitant (I should've mentioned) is there is another company we are speaking to that would do 3 hours (that was their minimum) of edited video for $930, and this company is doing 30 mins of unedited footage for $400. So the $930 for 3 hours plus editing is obviously a better deal... I just am not sure we need all that, and not sure it is worth $500 to us

I wouldn't assume the audio and video would be in sync without asking, and I would ask for a sample. We added on a "ceremony documentary" to our video package because our videographer told us the sound isn't always great with just the raw footage. With the upgraded package, she will actually be connecting to the mic/speaker system to get all of the audio and match it up in the editing process. We also want our vows to be part of the final video, and she said we would need to get the audio done for this because some couples just want background music in the video and don't upgrade for audio. If the audio won't be of great quality, I would honestly splurge on the $930 for 3 hours.

I would splurge and do the $930. Not only does it come to you already edited, but it's for 3 hours. My favorite parts of to our wedding ceremony are only minimally in our ceremony. I loved watching my dad and I dance, see the guests having a good time, see the cake cutting. It was a beautiful memoir and I paid 1700 for 6 hours

We are getting a short 3-4 minute video and then all the raw footage to have and edit eventually ourselves!

Oh wait I missed the part of only being the ceremony. Splurge and get the 3 hours! It shows so much more than just pictures IMO.
