Uneven Bridal Party

Keresa, on August 26, 2021 at 10:26 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hey ladies,
I’m 4 months from getting married. One of my bridesmaids told me that she was unable to attend because her job put certain days out that she can’t go. I’m wondering if I should ask someone to stand in her place or should I just leave it 2 bridesmaids and 3 grooms?

Personally, I wouldn't replace her. The person you ask to stand in her place will know that they are a replacement and wouldn't have been asked otherwise. The sides don't have to be even, it's totally fine to have 2 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen!

I wouldn’t ask somebody to stand in your wedding simply to make sides even. It’s very common to have uneven wedding parties these days!

So the walking back, how would you make that work?

I would just leave it, it won't look weird at all!

You could have one bridesmaid walk with two groomsmen and the other bridesmaid walk with the remaining groomsman, or have one groomsman walk alone. For my sister's wedding, she had uneven sides, and had two bridesmaids walk with each groomsman (except for the best man and MOH, who walked together).

We will have uneven sides in our BP. We are just having everyone walk alone

I was just in a wedding with two bridesmaids and three groomsmen (technically there was also a maid of honor but she couldn't be there in person because of international travel restrictions). It was fine and didn't look weird! For the processional we all walked in alone. For the recessional, the other bridesmaid walked out with two groomsmen. You can definitely keep things as they are.

I had people walk alone in my uneven bridal party (2girls and 3dudes). Both my girls were happy to not have to match up to and hang on someone they barely knew anyway lol

Luckily, one of my bridesmaids is the grooms cousin. So I think I’ll just match her up with the other cousin and brother.

I'd leave it. Similar thing happened to me where one of my bridesmaids had to drop out but I didn't want to replace her just so the sides are even. For the recessional, MOH and BM will walk down together and then my other bridesmaid will be escorted by both of the groomsmen.

I'll repeat what everyone said. I would leave it uneven. That's not very much time for a replacement to get a dress and everything, plus they would know they were a second choice. Just have one of the groomsmen walk alone.

For the recessional you could have the wedding party member "weave", like one guy, next a woman, then a guy...

    Uneven wedding parties are fine!

Don't replace people, they're not props.
