Here were our contenders. We also didn’t want to go for something overly used (I’m pretty sure Perfect by Ed Sheeran has been used at thousands of weddings 😂)

I have to throw a plug in for my contenders - Heaven by Bryan Adams, or Everything I Do by Bryan Adams. You can find so many covers or shortened versions that would be great for a wedding if you like these songs, but I haven’t seen these on any first dance song lists I’ve looked at! Our song will be the original version of Heaven

Look at music from the 40's, think Elle Fitzgerald and Etta James.

I walked down the aisle to Jack Johnson's Better Together (although it was a lyric-less cover) but I think the original song would have made a lovely first dance

We used Never Stop by Safetysuit

We danced to head over boots by Jon Pardi- a bit faster than the traditional slow dance. I loved it!

YES! "At Last" by Etta Jones is one of the contenders for us. The other one is "All the Way" by Frank Sinatra ... it's the first song we danced ever danced to.

My wife and I used "At the Beginning" from the Anastasia soundtrack. A bit faster, but still good for a dance. Our runner up was "Forever the Same" by Rob Thomas.


Bonus: we used "Sugar, We're goin down" for cake cutting. Because sugar and cake and the lyric of "am I more than you bargained for yet?" Is funny as you wait to see if cake gets smashed in your face.

My fiancée and I are also looking for a unique first dance song. We like old school rap and r and b. Any ideas?
