Unity Candle, Sand, or nothing?

We are planning on doing the lighting of the candles at our wedding ceremony. I've seen some people represent unity with the sand as well. Do any of you plan on doing lighting of candles or something else to represent your unity?

I agree with Stacy. I don't like them! Not to offend anyone who does, but I just don't like them. It isn't our thing. Our ceremony will literally be MAYBE fifteen minutes long. I want to get married and I want to party after.

We are not doing anything. It all seemed very forced to us.

We are doing a planting of a baby tree at the ceremony. We are having my parents and FH's parents bring soil from their houses which we will pour onto our baby tree at the ceremony. We are usually not about the unity ceremony thing, or over complicating things, but when we saw the planting tree idea, it was just so perfect for us! We love gardening and taking care of our outdoor babies!

We're getting married in our yard, and keep saying we need to plant more trees, so we decided to incorporate that! We'll use soil from both of our parents' homes. Part of why we wanted to include a unity ceremony was to incorporate some special music other than the processional and recessional into the ceremony without having everyone just sitting listening to the singers.

We're doing sand, and FH is making the box we'll use. We're both very visual people, so we want something to look at every day. We're talking about giving the box a single shake each year to further mix the sand as a representation of our lives becoming more entwined. (Yes, we're that cheesy.)

Some of my couples have poured sand into an hourglass. Each year, they'll turn it over so the sand mixes a bit more each year.

Sand. Here's our "sand box" that will be on our mantle after the wedding.

After the wedding, they will create a sculpture for us. I like this because it's a piece of art that can always be on display.

We didn't do either. A Jewish wedding already has a lot of traditions associated with it, so we didn't feel the need to lengthen it by doing one more.

We haven't decided for sure but I think we are doing a hand fasting ceremony. It involves the best man and MOH. I think it's neat to include them.
