Unity candles- no groom parents

Honey, on August 9, 2020 at 8:12 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7
Hi. We're holding a small ceremony and want to do the unity candle ceremony however his parents won't be present. His dad is deceased and his mother will be joining us virtually. Any ideas on how we can make it work?

You could just do a unity candle with the two of you?

I've only ever seen the bride and groom light the candles themselves.

I thought it was mostly just the bride and groom?

Usually the moms light the candles at the beginning (two tapers ) and the bride and groom take the tapers and light the pillar candle in the middle together

We are just lighting them ourselves. My mother has passed and my father wont be in attendance.

I don't see any reason you can't light the candles yourselves. Unless you have other family or close friends that you'd like to have help?

If my mom hadn't been able to make our mini-COVID wedding, I probably would have asked my MOH to light the candle since she's like a sister to me.

I would say light your own candle and groom lights his own ( to be your individuals) then when lighting together it would mean more as your coming as one.
