Unity Ceremony Ideas

Jordan, on April 11, 2021 at 1:50 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 14
Hi all! My fiancé and I want to do some sort of unity ceremony during our wedding (tying the three strands, sand pouring, planting a tree, etc.). We aren’t super crazy about any of the common unity ideas, but we also don’t want to do anything too out of the box. If you are doing something like this, I’d love to hear what you’re doing! For some context, we will be having a religious (Christian) ceremony, so we are definitely open to unity ceremonies that are religious in nature. Thanks in advance!

My FH and I are on the hunt for a unity ceremony too! we are not religious, but the two we have liked so far are 1) Anniversary Box, you each write a letter(you could include relatives too) and put a bottle of wine in a box with the letters, then work together to seal the box with a nail in each corner. Then open it on your anniversary (either 1,5,10 year, whatever) 2) glass unity, where you each have a different colour of glass bead and pour them into a jar together, that jar gets sent to a glassblower who then uses those beads to create a glass vase/ornament/paperweight, and then they send it to you when it is done.

We are still looking for something fun, be we have these two on our idea list!

What ideas are you opposed to? Just for reference. There are countless options and many are listed at offbeatbride.com and any wording you choose can be used for them. Some I have seen online (never in person): painting, someone here mentioned a DIY cross art, anything food related (peanut butter and jelly, blending whiskey, sharing chocolate..have seen a variation of this as a religious sermon, making guacamole). The list goes on..only limited by budget and imagination.

We aren’t doing a unity ceremony, exchanging of rings will do for us. I was looking into unity glass, though. You select different colors and return them for a piece of art; sculpture, paper weight, bowl, tree ornaments... looks beautiful but pricey!

My fiancé and I are doing a 1 minute blind contour of each other. It will be a moment where we look at each other closely. You are not supposed to look at the drawing when you are drawing so no need to worry if you can’t draw. Each portrait will be framed in our future home.

We did a unity puzzle. We now have it framed in our bedroom.

I'm a bartender and have been teaching my FH how to mix drinks as we enjoy them, so... we're doing a unity cocktail! Still figuring out exactly which one, but it will likely be something with 3 ingredients to represent me/FH/God as ours is a Christian ceremony as well.

We did a glass unity ceremony with our kids. We each chose a different color of glass and the company sent us the glass crystals. We combined them during the ceremony then sent the mixture back to the company to create a sculpture from our colors. We actually just got it back.

My husband and I ended up doing 2 kinds of unity ceremonies, one was a Hispanic tradition of gold coins (las arras) where each coin represents a wish upon the life we want to sow together and then placed into a velvet lined heart shaped container.

And we also did one where after we read our vows, we folded them up and placed them and the coins in a heart shaped box, placed that box in a heart shaped cage, and locked it noting that every year on our anniversary from that day on we would open it and reread our vows that we took to one another and remember the bond of love and devotion that we share forever that was made public on our wedding day.

The Heart box also connects magnetically so it's easy to disassemble like so:Unity Ceremony Ideas 4

I found that some of the wording and old time "values" associated with the coin ceremony was a tad bit misogynistic so I reworded/omitted some things that my husband and I didn't agree with. It was quite lovely if I do say so myself, and I do ;P

My fiance is a boat guy, so were literally tying a knot as a unity ceremony. The knot gets stronger under pressure, and I like that analogy in real life.

My fiancé and I are doing a unity candle ceremony I am going to have my grandmother light one white candle and my fiancé‘s grandmother light another white candle and then we will take them and light a gorgeous red candle that I found and that will represent our two families coming together. I’m excited but also nervous.
