Unity Ceremony Song - help!

Tess, on June 4, 2015 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

We are doing a strand of 3 cords ceremony for our unity ceremony, and am having the hardest time finding the right song. We have a guitarist who would play and sing the song, and he can do almost anything. I am wanting a contemporary or traditional Christian song. Any suggestions?

    Athena, this http://www.godsknot.com/cord-of-three-strands/

FutureMrsW, we're having Kim sing You Are For Me by Kari Jobe during our cord of 3 ceremony. I've been practicing not crying when I hear it. Ugh.

P.S. Did you have someone make yours? I still need to get ours!

Is this for a church ceremony? Our organist suggested to just let him pick play anything as the unity ceremony isn't all that long and ends quickly so an easy transition song is needed. I was fine with it...one less (minor) thing to worry about/choose

Oh, right, suggestion lol. I almost went with Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) by Chris Tomlin, so maybe you could do that one? I loooove that song. It was a serious contendor. It has a lot of meaning to me and my family. It was my grandma's favorite song, so it would have been a way to have her there on that day. But my mom, along with me, would probably cry like a baby because of it lol. So I went a different route to cut down on the crying lol

@Trisha - Nick and his dad are making it out of barn wood from Nick's grandpa's barn. I am going to use the cricut to cut out the verse. Not sure if I will just stick on the vinyl or use the vinyl as a stencil to paint it on.

Beloved might be the one! Thanks @AK!

@Trisha - that song is so pretty! I actually saw her sing live at the women of Faith conference. She seemed like such a sweet person.

I usually recommend NOT having music in the body of the ceremony; the cues are often missed, and usually the officiant is talking through the activity.

I've done a cord of three, and I'd recommend at least starting it before hand; it takes a long time to braid it; longer than you think.

    Thanks Celia!

I didn't think about how long it takes, then when you mentioned that, I realize how bad my FH probably is at braiding lol

I was just listening to music for this last night. Two of my favorites were Love Never Fails - Brandon Heath and When I Say I Do - Matthew West

My plan was to have the music start after the officiant talks about the ceremony, while we are braiding (I have watched some videos on YouTube of people doing the braiding and I thought that would be a long awkward silence) we were also going to surprise each of our moms with a rose after we get done braiding.

@ Trisha - I'm still deciding if we will both braid, but most videos I have seen show the guy holding the end and the bride doing the actual braiding. We will do a test run to see how it goes, lol.

I love When I Say I Do! I had already planned to walk down the aisle to it!
