Universal Studios or Disney World?

Abigail, on January 30, 2018 at 8:36 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 25
Hello.
My fiance and I are thinking about going to universal studios or Disney world. I was wondering if I can get some input from people who have been there, what did you do? How was the experience? Etc.

I'm a born and raised Floridian, and have gone to Disney World my whole life (whenever we could afford it haha!)

I personally like Disney the best, but I highly recommend going on a weekday, and getting fast passes to keep from waiting to long in lines.

If you are are there more for rollercoasters, Universal is probably the way to go. If you love all things Disney and like parades and shows as well as different Disney themed rides, Disney is the way to go. I hope this helps!

As far as experiences go, definitely try all of the "mountains" at Disney if you are into rollercoasters.

Space mountain s in is a ride in the dark, thunder mountain is a mining themed ride and splash mountain is a water "flume like" ride with a 60ft drop

Theres a new Dwarves ride as well. It's fun, but the line is long and the ride is over quickly.

My top rides are Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, and Thunder Mountain.

My fiance and I are doing Disney for our honeymoon. We have been to both places and we definitely prefer Disney. We feel like Universal has more of a theme park/amusement park feel while Disney is much more of an experience. Let me know if you have any specific questions- I have an annual pass and I go all the time! Good luck!

I would definitely rather go to Universal. The rides are better. Plus, maybe I'm just cynical, but I don't get the allure of Disney for adults.

Disney has more options as far as a hopper pass. If you’re going for more than a few days, you can do and see more in Disney. Universal is a 1 or 2 day thing and then you’ve seen it all. Disney has 5 parks, definitely agree Disney is more of an experience like its own little world. But Universal does have better roller coasters in one location.

I have been to both and overall like Disneyworld more. BUT I wanted to point out that the main that Universal Studios has going for it is Harry Potter World (I don’t remember if they are separate parks?). I think it’s worth going to both Disneyworld and Universal Studios/HP World if you have time and money, especially if you are Harry Potter fans. You don’t need to go to all of the different “worlds” of Disney World and maybe Universal Studios is better than some of them. I think the best parts of Disneyworld are the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, I don’t remember being as impressed with the other two (especially the animal one) but that’s just my option and I went a long time ago so things may have changed!

Well do you like Disney characters or thrill rides and Harry Potter more? WDW is fun and tower of terror at HS is my favorite ride but UO and IOA just have so much more updated rides, more thrill rides and of course Harry Potter.

We did both for our honeymoon. We stayed in Disney and did a day trip to universal for Harry Potter world. Disney is definitely an experience as others said where Universal is more theme park. If you are any sort of HP fan, Universal is worth at least a day trip with park hopper so you can ride the train.

The theming at Disney is much better and I always find that the cast members spoil you a bit more than employees at Universal (that's just nitpicking though). If you like Disney and are going for more of an experience and enjoying the magic, I would go with Disney. If you are one of those adults that has no interest in Disney or "kiddie stuff" or what you're looking for is one roller coaster after another, I would go with Universal. Alternatively, if your honeymoon is during the week and/or during off seasons, you can get most of Universal and Islands of Adventure done in one day. It might we worth considering doing a few days at Disney and one at Universal if that works for you.

I will say that both parks are amazing and you will have a blast either way Smiley smile

We did both last year and definitely preferred Universal. Disney is cute but Universal had better thrill rides and Harry Potter

Disney would be my first choice! I feel there’s more to do and there are a ton of ways to add in some romance in the parks! Plus it’s so much fun to feel like a kid again and with their buttons you get for special occasions such as getting married everyone will be congratulating you and it’s honestly a fun feeling! I got engaged at Disney and having the character reactions wearing my just engaged celebration button was a blast!! But I’d say if you could afford it to do both because you can have twice the fun!

Disney has more rides and absolutely beautiful parks! Universal has Harry Potter world (My favorite part because I love HP!) and the rides are better than Disney. Universal doesn't have as many rides but they are much smaller. It really depends on how long you want the honeymoon for. They are plenty of beautiful places around Universal to visit and to see. Also I am partial to Universal because my fiancé proposed not far from there (30 minutes or so). But Disney is a really cool place to go. It really does depend how long you want your honeymoon to be.

Epcot is my favorite, I could easily spend 3 days in that place. We did universal for Harry Potter World because my nephew is obsessed, the thing that sucks is you have to get the park hopper pass if you want to do both London and Hogwarts. Since it was the main reason we went it was only worth it to see his excitement. Another thing about universal is you have to pay a pretty hefty fee for their fast pass. We had 5 in our group so it wasn't worth it, but maybe it would be for just 2. Magic kingdom is great for classic Disney things, and Hollywood studios is cool for the movies, we wanted to get there this last time since they bought star wars but we weren't able to. Don't forget there's also the free parts of each, universal has city walk and Disney has what used to be downtown Disney, they changed the name and I can't think of it right now. Both are great for food and shopping.

I'm biased since I've had Universal Annual Passes for 3 years lol. I love Harry Potter but I also love City Walk. We usually stay on site and love going out in the evening to city walk, there are usually bands at several of the restaurants like Margaritaville and Bob Marley and it's nice to get frozen drinks and walk around. There's a chocolate themed restaurant, yum. We never use our car when we go up for a weekend. There's a waterpark too now but it was cold every time we've gone since we upgraded/renewed our passes. Disney has much more to do overall, but it's also more expensive and more spread out.

What time of year would you be going? Both resorts have amazing events throughout the year, and maybe an event could help influence your decision. It also depends on if you want more roller coasters and thrill rides or something more relaxed, romantic, and nostalgic. Universal is a lot more on the thrill side, whereas Disney is more relaxed. My fiancé and I will be going to Magic Kingdom for a day for our short 3 day honeymoon (doing a short honeymoon now, doing a more elaborate one later. We only live an 1.5 hrs from Orlando, aha), and I’m honestly super excited about it! Every time anything major happens in our lives we go to Disney, even when we got engaged. Do what feels more like you guys!

I would do Disney. Universal is great, but Disney is more magical, especially during a time of romance.

I love Universal Parks, Harry Potter is amazing! But when it comes to staying at the resorts I would never stay at Universal again. The nickel and dime you, and you just don't get anywhere near the same service as Disney. The resorts at Disney are just more magical too. Disney may be more expensive but you absolutely get your money's worth.

Just do Disney and take a day trip or two to Universal. FS and I did all of Universal in just one day (we may have done the express pass though). Fun, but not a whole lot to see.

I've done both and love both. I'd have to pick Universal Studios over Disney simply for the Harry Potter factor. I've stayed at on site resorts at both places. It's a little pricey but worth not having to fight with parking every day. There is definitely more to do at Disney though. I've only done 2-3 day vacations recently. You can see everything at Universal in less than 2 days, 1 day if you're like me and only go for Harry Potter. If I had longer I'd stay at Disney and take a day trip over to Universal. I think most of the area hotels run shuttles to both parks. Have fun!
