Unresponsive Hair Stylist

Need advice!!
I'm getting married 8/26/22. I booked my hair stylist in October. When I booked her, she was very responsive, and I loved her work. So I signed a contract and gave her a $200 deposit. So I messaged her on 3/26 with a few questions and I wanted to pay off my balance. No response. Meanwhile, I can see her actively trying to get new clients through the some of the wedding Facebook pages I follow.
So I sent her a Facebook message (we have been communicating through email). She responded right away, and she said she's been on maternity leave and that she would respond soon. It's been 3 weeks since then, and I am starting to feel like I should start searching for a new stylist. All of my other vendors have gotten back to me within a week of messages, but I am now a month without an official response from her, and I'm starting to get concerned! Again, I can see that she is actively trying to get new clients on a regular basis.Any advice would be appreciated!!

    Have you tried calling her, emailing, messaging on Instagram? Anything except Facebook?

    I have emailed her multiple times, and messaged her on FB. She responded on FB, and she said she would get back to me shortly. That was 3 weeks ago!

    Agh that’s such an annoying situation! I would be frustrated too.. hmm I would send her a message expressing your concern about her response times and if she doesn’t get back in 2 weeks I would look for another one because Hair is important and I know they book really quick. Hopped up get a response back!

    I feel she should’ve posted somewhere that she was taking a maternity leave and for how long but I don’t understand why she’s online actively doing work but not answering you back. It’s like she’s picking and choosing what work she wants to deal with right now which I don’t think is very professional as a business owner

    Exactly!! I totally understand being on maternity leave and needing a break. But seeing her actively trying to get new clients when I've already signed a contract and paid a deposit is really just rubbing me the wrong way.

    I would be frustrated too. I completely understand her taking a maternity break but when she is frequently online trying to gain more business while essentially ignoring you it’s not the way that a professional should conduct their business. I would give her another week to respond and if she doesn’t then start looking for someone else.

    I used to work for a DJ who marketed through facebook and even though it was sometimes through his personal profile, he had a team of admins who would post and advertise for him. We also did a lot of scheduled posts ahead of time when he was out of town or when we left the country for his wedding. Which is just to say, I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt - she may really just be busy off on maternity leave/being a new mom. Just because someone is posting on social media it doesn't mean they're physically in that moment posting things.

    Are her leave dates posted anywhere? Like the PP mentioned, it may be a scheduled post or something. I'd reach out again over FB saying you wanted to follow up. It may just be that she's still on leave or super overwhelmed and hasn't gotten around to it. If she still doesn't get back to you after a week or so then I'd probably start vetting new vendors.

    I've checked her sites, her leave was not posted. I see that she's been doing bridal trials the last few weeks though.

    My makeup artist was a poor communicator due to how busy she was (is). This was corrected after an exchange of texts and ultimately a phone call which communicated my frustration with the situation and established how communication needed to be handled in the future. I’d recommend you explain your frustrations to her and that if she cannot set a date with you for a trial after her maternity leave is over, then she is in violation of her contract and you’ll need the deposit back. I was happy I have my MUA the opportunity to correct the behavior, because her work was impeccable. Communication is key! Let her know she is failing at that and then give her a chance to improve, or else you walk away!
