Unsupportive Family

I know it's mine and FHs day but it really sucks that my dad and grandparents aren't going to support our marriage. I'm scared to even send save the dates when it comes time. Even my sister who is my best friend isn't supportive. I've considered just not telling them. Any advice?

    You are absolutely right!

Side note: I am absolutely blown away because their reason for not attending YOUR wedding was because they didn't like the invitations! What in all sam hill?!

Sadly, you do not have to justify to anyone why you love someone, why they make you happy, and why you want to marry them!

This is really awful, on several levels, and I am sorry you are going through this. I can understand (and would support!) you not inviting your family to your wedding. If they are going to be hateful, then they have no right to attend.

However, if you don't plan to exclude them (either from your wedding or your life), then there is no benefit to not telling them. It's better to tell them sooner than later. Just get it over with but prepare yourself for a negative reaction from them. If you expect the worst, they can't disappoint you. Again, I am so sorry they are acting this way.

Oh, you seem to not have met a narcissist.

Yeah, obviously there was a lot more going on.

If they are racist, they are better not receiving an invite. Plan on them not attending. Focus on the ones who do love and support you.

Talk about burying the lead, but what we now have is your family are racist Neanderthals who frequently use the N word, and you have two mixed race children. Please for the safety of your children, get these people out of your life! Can you even imagine what it will be like for their grandmother to use the N word in front of your children!!!! Tell them straight up unless they reform their 1800s Lost Cause BS they will never see you or the grandchildren again! This has nothing to be with being "unsupportive" of your wedding and everything to do with the safety of your children.
