Up lighting interferes with photos

Jayla, on September 24, 2013 at 9:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 12

How do you ladies feel about uplighting? I thought about having it. I asked the company if the lighting will cause problems with my pictures. She said only if the photographer don't know what they are doing. So what about everyone with regular cameras and cellphone pictures. Any of you have any experience with this?

I think of it this way. I'm paying a pro to take pictures of our big day, not our guests.

We are having up lighting and I've never heard of it interfering with pics before. If it did I don't think it would be so popular.

I think it's another way to suck money out of your budget, frankly. I am at hundreds of weddings a year, and I can only think of several where it made any difference at all.

I'd talk about with your photographer, and ask to see pictures of weddings that were uplit. A lot of photographers will just convert an image to black and white if the lighting did not come out well.

What they MAY be talking about is LED flicker with the video. An LED fixture CAN create a weird look with some video cameras, but I've NEVER heard it causing a problem with a digital or film still camera.

If you feel you need lighting you can insist the vendor use "conventional" par cans (not LED). There are plenty of low wattage (under 100) lamps available so power issues shouldn't be an issue. Any competent lighting vendor should be able to do either an LED or a conventional.

It depends on who you are using for lighting and photography. Always put your lighting people in touch with your photography and video vendors. Expensive LED based lights have the right power transformers and dimmers in them to prevent flicker, cheaper ones don't which can mess with video.

Working with a lighting company who can articulate exactly how it will look and show examples will give you an idea if that's a particular look you want or not. Will there be scene changes throughout the evening? Will there be spotlights used? Lasers? Photographers hate lasers, they leave green and red dots that show up really well in photos and are a pain to photoshop out of dancing pictures.

Bottom line is uplighting/lighting in general can enhance the look of the venue and decorations if done right just like the photographer can capture your day if done right. Get everyone talking ahead of time so they can work together so you'll have the best results possible.

We are using uplighting through our venue. In looking at pics (and seeing in person) the difference it makes at that particular place, it was a no brainer to us to spend the money on it.

It depends on the color you choose, we did blue and fushcia and it didn't make a difference with the photos. I wouldn't do red or green because those can cast a weird glow on the guests.

Are you having a pro photographer or just friends taking photos?

Hi - We are a lighting company in the Las Vegas area. I sell lighting for the fact that it ENHANCES the videography and photography throughout the night. I actually work with a couple vendors who request uplighting so that the pictures pop and come out awesome. Check out our website www.blissentertainmentgroup.com for more information

You should not have a problem with uplighting....in many cases it helps with you decor and the overall look.

It would be different if you have strobe lights going, but uplights are safe. You can look at pictures with uplights from your actual venue. Google your venue and hopefully you can see some pictures with and without the lighting. If it helps any we have pictures with lighting in our photos here on WW that you can use as a reference.

If you have a professional photographer with good equipment then you should not have any worries.

    Good Luck!
