Up or down, extensions or no extensions

Liz, on March 14, 2019 at 12:54 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17
I’m having a hair dilemma! I have medium length brown hair and a fairly round face. I don’t get married until October so hoping hair will grow a bit, but I’m not sure if I should do my hair up or down or have extensions put in.

I’m worried if I have my hair up that my face will look fat and highlight my double chin, but if I leave my hair down I might not have long enough hair to have the luxurious, full hair I’ve seen on other brides, thus requiring costly extensions. Half up half down isn’t something I’m considering thanks to being told I look like the brunette version of Orlando bloom in Lord of the Rings 🙄

Do you brides have any thoughts on this? How did you choose? I’ve included pictures of me and the hair styles I’m considering. Thanks!

"Thanks to being told I look like the brunette version of Orlando bloom in Lord of the Rings" Hahahahahaha!!!!

Well, first off, no you don't. I also can't find that double chin you were mentioning either. What is the neckline of your dress? Also, do you plan on wearing a veil or headpiece? Both the neckline and veil/headpiece will have some influence over what hairstyle would work best.

Start taking 10,000mcg of biotin daily. Not the gummies as they have a bunch of sugar and junk in them. I have some health issues and when I have flare ups my hair tends to fall out. This helped tremendously with my hair, skin, and nails. Even when I am not in a flare up I notice a huge difference in the strength, thickness, and the rate of growth in my hair and nails. A friend of mine started taking it too and she also noticed a huge difference. I like both the styles that you posted, though the neckline and head wear would push me to my final decision.

You look beautiful I don’t think either hairstyle will be an issue! But they can always add hair extensions if you want those long waves.

My hair is about the same length but thinner. I didn't decide until I found a hair piece I liked. I am not wearing a veil and the hair piece is specific to wearing my hair down. I will be purchasing hair extensions to get the length and fullness and wear my hair down and be adding a few loose curls to give it some definition.

Haha thanks! So my dress is strapless and I’m not sold on a veil yet but if I wear one it’ll be a cathedral veil. Here’s a pic of my dress! Great advice on biotin though! Ordering on amazon today!!

Sally's beauty supply. I am buying the Euronext brand and the 18" ones. I spoke with someone who works there and she said she recommends that brand to all brides.

Okay hold up! I was so relating to this until I saw your picture!

    1. You do not have a round face, you have a HEART SHAPED FACE! (This was what I had before I gained 10 pounds every year for the last 5 years)

    2. I am not seeing a double chin...

    3. You look nothing like Orlando Bloom 9which is sad because he was awesome in LOTR lol)

    4. You are stunning!

Okay now to actually help. I would make this decision based off of two things, How you feel in each style and the style of your dress.

Do you have a picture of you in your dress? Try taking a picture with your hair up (just a messy bun or something) and a picture of it down.

If you are planning on wearing a veil that isn't a drop veil you probably will not be able to wear your hair completely down as it will have nothing to hold to.

Try doing a trial with whoever is styling your hair in which you try multiple styles.

if you would like extensions for the wedding but not continued use after you can find cheap ones at Sally's (or other salon store chains) or even cheaper ones on Amazon.

Okay seeing your pictures I would wear it down without extensions and no veil. I think it looks so beautiful and bridal

First of all, can we let your dress have a moment? I am DYING over that dress. It is stunning on you!

Second, double chin?? I think not!! You shouldn't even worry a bit about that!

Go with what you feel comfortable with and what you think will last. I have long hair. I pulled it back because we were getting married on a beach and I knew the curls would not stand a chance out there. Wind & sea breeze would not be my friend! Even with hair to the middle of my back, I still needed a "bun" to make my hair as full as I wanted when I pulled it back. I bought one of those large net things on Amazon and it helped a bunch. If your hair holds a curl (mine doesn't) and you can afford the extensions, then go for it. Either way, I am sure you will look beautiful!

Holy Crow!!! Your dress is absolutely stunning and you look amazing in it! You could shave your hair into mohawk and you would still look good. I'm leaning toward having your hair down. With the open (strapless) and sweetheart neckline, it would frame your face beautifully. I'm picturing some vintage waves/soft curls in your hair with a jeweled headpiece similar to what you posted and I think it would be stunning.

You have gorgeous hair, a gorgeous dress, and a gorgeous face. I love your second inspo pic, defined curls with a big eye-catching clip. That would give your hairstyle some structure but also keep things soft around your face if that's a concern for you, and an ornate clip would look really smashing with a satin dress.

Also your Orlando Bloom comment reminded me of this:
