Update from My sister lost my wedding dress

Jaclyn, on March 15, 2022 at 5:31 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 5

Its been a couple of months since I posted my frustration and sadness about my sister losing my wedding dress. Long story short, my sister took my wedding dress without my knowledge while I was on my honeymoon to be sent out for the cleaning and preservation. She filled out the address wrong and my dress was sent out to wherever. I tried calling the gown preservation place to see where it was sent or what we can do and filed a claim with UPS. Unfortunately, my dress is just gone. They were unable to retrieve it from the address it was sent to and the claim is still open. I am still trying to get over it, its just a dress but its hard.

What I was debating is buying another one. It was a dress from David's Bridal and it isn't super expensive. I was thinking of purchasing the same dress to have it and keep it like I would have my original dress for memories/future purposes/sentimental reasons. But I would feel like it wouldn't be the same. It's a popular dress now so I don't see it getting discontinued soon but I want to decide before it could be.

What would you do? Would you purchase a new one or just let it go forever?

I would probably just let it go, but it's definitely a decision you have to make for yourself - only you're going to know if it will feel "different"

I’d just let it go. I don’t believe it’s worth spending the money if you’re never going to wear it again. I know women who preserve their dresses and literally never look at them again. I think the loss hurts because it’s fresh but with time you won’t feel so bad. At least you have pictures in the dress that you can keep forever!

I would let it go since your wedding is over. Now if she lost your dress before your wedding, that would be a completely different story

Do you think you'd ever wear it again? I know plenty of women preserve their dress and hang onto them for sentimental reasons, but honestly, it's just going to be sitting in a box collecting dust. I have my great-grandmother's dress, and while it's a neat thing to have, it really doesn't serve a purpose. Of course, it has to be your choice and what seems right to you, but buying a whole new dress just to either leave it in a box or cut it up and made into a keepsake item seems like a huge expense.

I would say try and find the dress on Preowned Wedding Dresses or Still White. I think that certain things are worth finding again if they have a very deep meaning to you.

If you wanted to do an "Anniversary" photo shoot and can't bear to be with out your dress, then it is worth getting. It may not be the same dress you wore that day, but it is a reflection of your personality.

It may be worth speaking to a few David's Bridals to see if they have a store sample on sale or have a dress that has been consigned.

Another path to take is looking on some facebook wedding resale pages. Maybe you'll find it there.
