I booked my DJ back in June, signed the contract and paid the deposit. I had a few questions for him so I emailed him last night asking how long the photo booth was going to be at the reception. I booked my DJ back in June, signed the contract and paid the deposit. I had a few questions for him so I emailed him last night asking how long the photo booth was going to be at the reception. He emailed me back this morning and said he made a mistake and that he forgot to take the photo booth part out of the contract before having me sign it and that if I wanted the photo booth it would be an additional $600.

We discussed having the photo booth and then he gave us the cost of $1350

The contract says that he will provide musical entertainment and a photo booth at the cost of $1350.

Now here we are 6 months until the wedding and the one thing I really wanted and already had signs made for he is saying is now a mistake and wants an additional $600. I'm afraid to argue the contract with him and have him do a poor job but I don't know what to do? Advice please and thank you!!

The contract is the contract - period. That's an expensive mistake on his part. Also based on his email you SHOULD expect to have the photo booth for 4 hours - no less. If the shoe was on the other foot he would hold you to the terms of the contract - you shouldn't treat him any different.

Update!!!!! So I emailed him and was very polite, I had a few people read the email prior to make sure because I know I can come off aggressive sometimes. He immediately responded with he will not honor it and that he will send me back my deposit and I can gladly look elsewhere for a DJ. So! Luckily before I emailed him I had contacted others and have a few that still have availability on my date! Thank you all for your advice!

Thanks for updating OP! I'm sure it kinda sucks to have to look for a new DJ but I honestly think it's for the best. Hope you find a new one soon!

@wendy I was shocked too!! I didn't expect such an aggressive response back. Here is the first page where it states what he would provide

Leave reviews for him on every platform you can!! He fully deserves a bad review.

Wow, what a douche, he would rather lose $1400 than $600. Not smart. Good riddance. Leave bad reviews everywhere and best of luck finding a new DJ!

My venue made two errors in the beo contract they sent me. When I sent I the payment they said I was short $200 based on their calculations. I sent them a nice email stating my final beo contact stating that was the account due. They honored their contact as had to eat the 200.

@wendy here is page two. Sorry it's a little hard to read because I'm trying to white out his name. But it just gives the total and doesn't break anything down about what cost what.

I work in procurement so I see a lot of contracts. We always argue away from the supplier having a no questions asked exit clause for this reason (obviously not something you would do for wedding services but still interesting). I think it's for the best that he cancelled bc you don't want him to give you shoddy service out of bitterness. So good that you figured his out now and have time to find someone else!

Wow, I'm shocked too, that he wouldn't even try to negotiate. I'm not saying blast him in every review, but I think you should review his business and let others know that the photobooth was an additional cost, although it was included in the cost of your first contract, and that because he did not want to honor that, you decided on a different DJ. That way any future brides can know to read their contracts with him extra thoroughly.

I agree with Sarah. You have a signed contract so he is required to hold up his end of the deal.

I'm just glad this is over! Unless he decides not to give me my deposit back!

As soon as you get that check, write some reviews. I would definitely want to know about something like that before hiring someone.

You don't need to blast him in reviews, but you should definitely leave a review of what happened so that anyone planning to book him can make sure that HE knows what is in the contract they are signing. It seems very unprofessional that he just decided not to honor the contract when the contract actually had what you had discussed in it.

If its in the contract he is obligated to provide that by law. A hair salon i signed with forgot to put in that they require a certain amount of bridesmaids in order to travel. I pointed this out and they gave me my deposit back because its legally bindng

That's his mistake he should have looked it over before he sent the contract out to you. He needs to honor that. I wouldn't pay extra anything let him know that he needs to honor his own contract that mistake was on him. If not you may have to find someone else because that is not how you do business he has to honor that.

You have time to find another DJ, just ask for your money back. He can very well jeopardize the evening because he is going to be upset about the $600 (assuming he decides to honor the contract).

This happened to us. We have a photo booth with a company. We asked for a 3 hour rental and they quoted us 350. We agreed, signed our contract paid the amount. A couple of weeks ago the woman let me know that 2018 pricing would actually make it 425. I let her know I already signed and paid in full (10% discount) and my contract stated 350. They honored the price because it was their error. It is crazy to see he wouldn't do the same. However, it is great you have back ups in place.
