Updo or half up half down?

Samantha, on July 23, 2021 at 11:42 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 11

Hi ladies! I am torn about what to do with my hair for my wedding at the end of September. I went for my hair trial and did an updo, and I wasn’t a fan of how it looked from the front, but the side view was pretty. I’m debating going back for another trial to do a half up half down look, but I’m torn because I don’t want to cover up the details of my dress. Thanks for your help!!

I think the updo looks great, but I think half up/half down would look even better!

Even if your hair is long, your stylist might be able to add in tighter curls so that way you are not covering up your back or any details on your dress! Very beautiful dress by the way!

I like the updo! I'm not sure of the length of your hair, but I feel like it may take away from the back of your dress if its long. Unless you have the back curled that would look really pretty in a half up/half down style

How long is your hair? If it's not too long - I would say try out the half up & half down - you might really like it and it may not cover too many details!

Side note; your updo is so, so pretty!! But, at the end of the day, it's up to you!!

I think the up do is really pretty, but it's worth trying the half up half down to see how you feel! I'd go for another trial with the half up style and take photos of that with your dress too and see how you feel!

You look beautiful with an updo and the back of your dress is gorgeous! I wouldn’t do 1/2 down but maybe just a loose updo?

Thank you so much for the pictures! I think you’re right that I just need a loser updo so there’s a bit more volume. I appreciate your help Smiley smile

You’re welcome! I love your look & dress. I just think a bit loose updo will give you romantic look you want while showing off your beautiful dress.

Based on the size of your updo bun, I don't think half up half down would cover much of your dress (unless your hair is super long and fine). You can also ask for more texture in your updo (which will make it look less plain from the front) or do an asymmetrical updo, which will add some interest and volume to your face from different directions, instead of only having depth when looked at from a 90 degree side view.

I did half up half down for our elopement and an asymmetrical updo for our wedding celebration (originally I wanted a low side bun before we ended up having Covid ruin our regular wedding plans). I ended up liking my updo better just because I think it was done better, but both looks were pretty. I don't feel like half up half down hid my dress too much at all.

I think your hair would be great worn up as you already have enough detail around your shoulders with the sleeves on your dress.

I personally think I'd have it up, so not to cover that gorgeous back. I think I'd do another trial to fiddle with the front, until you're happy since the back of the updo looked gorgeous.
