uplighting and upgraded chairs-worth it?

Miranda, on February 23, 2017 at 5:21 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 83

Hello! I am somewhat new to WW but have been following some posts for the past week. I'm Miranda. My fiancé and I are getting married May 20th in St.Louis in a beautiful venue by the arch. I am deciding what to spend money on with my decor. I like uplighting. Also the the banquet chairs are just so ugly at my venue. I am considering uplighting vs upgrading my chairs to gold chiavari chairs. What are your opinions? As a guest do you even notice the chair? I can't afford both so I am deciding what will make a greater impact/what is worth it. Do you notice uplighting as a guest? I'm trying to pick what will make a greater impression. What do you think, pretty chairs or uplighting? Any opinions are welcome Smiley smile

I would do up lighting. As a guest I don't give a fuck about the chairs as long as I have one to sit in. :-) Up lighting can really dress up a space.

Honestly, neither. I'd put that money towards upgrading food/drink. Something that really affects the guest experience.

I've never noticed chairs but for some reason the moment I got engaged and started planning I had a chair obsession. Chairs are much higher on my list than uplighting. Lol! But that's my one weird thing I care probably WAY too much about.

IMHO I would do neither and put the money towards something else. Uplighting done right I dont really notice. Uplighting done bad can give a colored tint to all of your pictures.

ETA: I never notice the chairs.

We were back and forth on this in the preliminary stages and decided neither was worth it. The chairs are comfortable and sturdy, we figure guests won't care if they're fancy. And with the lighting, it ended up that our DJ is providing us with additional lighting, so I'm glad we didn't spring for that.

Welcome! I think as long as the chairs are comfortable, most people won't really care what they look like. The up lighting might be more of an impact in my opinion.

My uplighting is $100. I think it does make a huge difference.

Personally I think the uplighting definitely helps.

Uplighting. It can totally transform a space. I only notice chiavari chairs because I hate them; they're really uncomfortable for my back.

I wouldn't do either one, honestly. I couldn't tell you what the chairs look like at the venue I was at last week, and I'm there almost every month.

I'm already having an open bar and everyone will be fed very well. So the money is not deducting from that department. I totally get what you are saying though. As a guest I never ever notice the chairs-but now that I'm planning I'm all worried about them. I don't know why. I have only noticed uplighting once at a reception. For the uplighting I was going to do an amber/gold color because our colors are red and gold. And red would be scary! It would make our reception look like it was hosted in hell lol. I asked my photographer and she said the amber would be fine with pictures.

Personally .. My wedding will have the ugly banquet chairs, but because chiavari chairs are SO uncomfortable I don't even care. I don't think anyone leaves a wedding and thinks "Mmm omg, did you notice those chairs? They were terrible." If your venue came with that chavari chairs that would be one thing, but to spend extra $$$ on them is a waste. Also keep in mind, those chiavari chairs have a weight limit.

ETA: with that being said, uplighting comes with my DJ package.

I notice chairs but I don't care enough to spend the money on them.

The only circumstance I would choose to upgrade the chairs is if I had to meet a minimum that my guest list didn't meet on it's own and I was out of other options!

Thanks guys. I think I agree on the no to the chairs. Although they are very pretty. Mostly because I can't remember for the life of me one chair I sat on in any wedding I've been to.

@Punkin Beer-uplighting for 100 dollars? That's awesome. Where are you getting that?

I looked at some venues that included them but the venue we decided on did not. I skipped both. Sure I would take them if included but not worth the extra money IMO.

I remember when I was in between wanting to upgrade to the beautiful chavari chairs. I went to dinner one night and sat down in one and immediately got up because how terrible it felt to sit in one and that made up my mind.

I never notice chairs unless they have those awful, white chair covers on them.

My DJ offered up lighting for $100, so we're doing that.

I originally wanted chiavari chairs, but they were $10+ a pop with set up and tear down. So, we settled for plain white folding, $3.50 each. No one will notice the chairs except me. I wouldn't even bother switching them out if the ones with my venue weren't absolutely hideous
