uplighting and upgraded chairs-worth it?

Hello! I am somewhat new to WW but have been following some posts for the past week. I'm Miranda. My fiancé and I are getting married May 20th in St.Louis in a beautiful venue by the arch. I am deciding what to spend money on with my decor. I like uplighting. Also the the banquet chairs are just so ugly at my venue. I am considering uplighting vs upgrading my chairs to gold chiavari chairs. What are your opinions? As a guest do you even notice the chair? I can't afford both so I am deciding what will make a greater impact/what is worth it. Do you notice uplighting as a guest? I'm trying to pick what will make a greater impression. What do you think, pretty chairs or uplighting? Any opinions are welcome Smiley smile

The chairs are beautiful but will be forgotten. The coordinator at our venue said that during a year of all the weddings they do maybe 4 people upgrade to chiavari chairs and they always say they're uncomfortable.

Uplighting has to be done well, though. It can make all your pictures look tinted and I personally am not always a huge fan of it, especially in really bright colors. But done well it can really make a space look nice!

These are the banquet chairs that are included in my venue. They offer gold chiavari chairs for 6 dollars each but at 150 people that's a lot.

Ignore the other decor this is someone else's wedding.

Chairs are definitely noteworthy when they are uncomfortable, your guests will notice comfort over style any day. Go with the up lighting.

Neither. This may be an UO, but I hate the look of the colored uplighting.

I also realized that I love WW. It's an awesome outlet when I want to talk about the wedding nonstop and don't want to burn my mom or fiancé out on it. Smiley smile you guys are always game to talk about weddings.

@Miranda, I have a small venue, it's a weekday wedding, and it's an add on from my DJ.

The price is great but there's a reason why.

You don't really need either, but if you really want to get one I'd say definitely go for uplighting. It can really help add to the look of the early reception and the party atmosphere of the later reception.

Chairs? Nobody notices them unless they are spectacular. If they're functional chairs that don't wobble, the chairs are fine. If you're renting Queen Ann styled chairs with sculpted legs and padded seats and backs, your guests might notice. Beyond that, nobody notices and nobody cares.

Uplighting? If you're determined to spend this money, that's where it would go. It's more noticeable than chairs, but honestly, I don't think you need either as long as you're hosting a cocktail hour that includes cocktails (that are free of charge and served at a bar that is open all night), catered apps, a good, restaurant quality dinner, and entertainment.

Chairs? Lighting? They're low on the list. Take care of what your guests will remember, and I promise you, chairs won't be one of those things.

We are having an open bar. Including during cocktail hour where there will be passed hor d'oeuvres and then a seated dinner (which should be good, I'm doing my tasting tomorrow actually, yay) We have a live band for cocktail hour and reception. So we aren't skipping out on those things. I appreciate the opinion though, because if it won't make a difference I might as well save money.

IMO neither. Definitely not the chairs at least. No one will notice and the chiavari chairs aren't very comfortable. I would upgrade the food and drinks.

The guests won't remember your chairs but they will be in some photos the photographer takes or the guests take during reception. If this were my decision it would depend on a few things: how ugly are the chairs? Gray folding chairs? Upgrade. If they are decent don't worry about it. Can you find a DJ that provides lighting or up lighting preferably for a deal? Also amber up lighting might help the chairs fade into the background in pics. So my vote is leaning toward uplighting.

@kari I posted a picture of the chairs earlier in this thread. What do you think?

And we are having a live band, no DJ.

They are brown. My linens will be ivory with red napkins. I'm having gold chargers and my centerpieces are white flower arrangements with gold accents.

A monogram light would be a good idea. Our dance floor is actually white and it lights up so they actually offer a monogram decal kind of like this . ( that is not my venue, but the decals look like that)

Uplighting! It can add so much to a room. Chairs are nice if you can afford it. We opted for more decor rather than chairs.
