My maid of honor is having her first baby soon and I am making her a basket filled with diapers, wipes, onesies, socks, nursing pads, reagular maxi pads, ibuprofen, bottles, burpclothes, hairties, nipple cream, stretch mark cream, and other essentials. Mailnly for mom when she's in the hospital and healing

I usually buy a few onesies or pajamas with something cute on them like a pattern or funny saying in various sizes. Babies don't usually stay in newborn sizes super long so I get a NB, 3-6 month and a 6-9 month as my standard if I don't know what else to get. This way they have something to grow into.

I will also echo clothes that the baby can grow into.

Receiving blankets. A ton of them. Don't bother with burp cloths. I still end up with spit up all over the place when I use those.

A big car seat. She'll use it for years!

A friend said she couldn't get enough onesies. Her kid went through multiple a day when he was a baby and she liked not having to do laundry every few hours. Nothing fancy, just plain white ones is what she requested since the messes happened the most when they were home.

I always do the California Baby sampler pack for a new mom. Then she can try a bunch of products and see what she likes best.

I definitely agree with things like a bumbo chair and boppy. On the other hand, I got an unnecessary amount of blankets. So.many.blankets. Skip the "fancy" things like wipe warmers and jacuzzi bathtubs lol. My absolute favorite thing I got was baby magic brand lotion. Seriously the best smelling stuff ever

I would suggest a swing http://jonsguide.org/best-top-ingenuity-swing-reviews/ but that's usually hit or miss because not all babies like the swing... my babies all lived it... it was a nice place for them to sleep in while I was cleaning the house or cooking.. the bouncer was a miss.... I wouldn't get that again...Rock and play good stuff also

Pretty much everything pp said and...a seahorse glow worm. They glow and play soft music when you press their belly. I used one with DS, and to this day if he's having trouble sleeping, I can put it by him, turn it on, and he falls asleep.

Favorite gifts- sound machine, personalized minky blanket, crib sheets, books books books, diapers (saved so much time going to the store in the beginning)

I know you don't want diapers, but I always buy diapers/clothes in bigger sizes so they're not scrambling if baby grows overnight and they don't have anything!
