Ushers/usherettes

Mrs. Juliana, on July 25, 2019 at 7:13 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11
What do they really do? I would like to ask my female cousin to be an usherette, I see it’s usually a male task and the last 2 weddings I’ve been to. I don’t remember seeing any.

I've been a groomsman/usher a few times and in my experience, Ushers are there for all the practical details.
They should know all the useful info; where the toilets are etc

    But the role usually includes
So hand out order of service sheets
Escort/direct people to seats (traditionally family and friends of bride and groom sitnon different sides but I'm not sure that's that common nowadays?)
Possibly help with parking or escorting people to venue (particularly elderly guests etc)
One will need to remain at the back to greet latecomers and help them find a seat.
They may work the sound system if the bride needs it to for the song playing as she walks down aisle
They escort the bridesmaids out at the recessional.

Basically they are there to help the day run as smoothly as possible

They seat guests for the ceremony. I haven't been to a wedding with ushers in some time. Most people can find a seat on their own.

Our ushers are going to help seat guests (mainly to make sure guests dont sit in seats reserved for family), help late guests know when they can sit down, chat with guests while they wait for the ceremony to start, and just be there for any questions/help. They probably arent entirely necessary since a lot of venues have people to help out, but we also wanted to include his cousins as part of the wedding since they arent groomsmen, and this was a way to do that.

Ushers usually help seat the guests. I go to an average of 4 or 5 weddings a year and I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen ushers.

This is what I was thinking. The venue has attendants at the ceremony. An usher doesn’t seem necessary.

My friend was an usher at mine. He kind of just greeted everyone, handed them a program and a send off bubble.

I will be having 3 ushers, mainly because it's my 3 best friends from high school who are men (and my FH isn't super keen on having bridesmen). They are going to be greeting guests as they come, help escort elderly guests to their seats, answer any questions guests may have, as well as do a reading during the ceremony.

We have 2 ushers. 1 male, 1 female. Never been to a wedding without them. It's just nice to have someone escort people to their seats and be greeted upon entry.

I'm having two ushers. They will simply be handing out programs before the ceremony. We aren't inviting children to the wedding but a young cousin of FH and one of my family friends boys we both really want there... so we kind of made up the need so they will be "in the wedding party"

We are not having ushers at our wedding. I don't see the point. My guests can seat themselves, which is their main job.

We're having 2 ushers. They'll basically be a contact point for guests so they know where the ceremony and bathrooms are. They'll also help seating guests if need be Smiley smile

They also offered to help take down decorations (since we won't have that many - our ceremony space is honestly stunning with little decorating) while we are out doing our photos before cocktail hour! Smiley smile
