Using records in centerpieces...ideas?

vinlars, on May 6, 2011 at 11:48 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

We're having a 70's themed wedding. I'll be in a short blue dress and gogo boots, FH and the guys in some kick a** brown ruffled tuxes. It's coming together piece by piece, but I'm not sure what to do as centerpieces.

I'd like to use some of the old records I have, perhaps bent into bowls, but what should I have in them? Or in place of the traditional mirror under the candle thing. We aren't doing much with flowers, and are trying to keep it cheap without looking it. Any suggestions?

TIA

You could fill the record bowls with popcorn.

I've heard that it's a "fragrant" process (aka it stinks)

You could put put some candy's that were popular in the 70's in them?

Wow! I can't type fast enough to keep up! You ladies are awesome!

    I'm thinking about 12 centerpieces.

I've seen people bend them in the oven, but I worry about toxic fumes and cross contaminating. I tried some this morning with boiling water, and it worked really well and was way too much fun!

@ Nancy, I read that once you heat them you shouldn't eat directly out of them b/c of the toxins released, but maybe some 70's candy would be good in them. They'd be wrapped and safe to eat.

You can use them as chargers for your plates?

If you melted them into bowels, fill them with you and FH's favorite candy -- that can also double as favors.
