Vacation Rental as Wedding Venue

Cassie, on November 16, 2014 at 1:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 20

Hello!

I have a total budget of $5000 and, as such, most venues are too expensive for me. I am looking into renting a nice vacation home to use as a venue (and also to double as a place for my guests to stay). Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions about this?

I would also love suggestions of places in the NC mountains that could sleep at least 15 and also have a large yard to hold the ceremony (preferably with a view). Thanks in advance!

Check Craigslist. People put their vacation properties for rent on there.

I think you'll be better off looking on HomeAway.com. You might find more properties on there. Also, I see you are in Maryland and my husband's family has rented houses in Deep Creek before. Some of the properties there would be really nice.

I would carefully price that out. Even without renting a house backyard weddings get expensive quick. Make sure to account for all the rentals you will need, tables, chairs, linens, China, silverware, tent, dance floor, lighting, etc. In my area the rentals alone could cost $5-10k.

What Natalie said, and remember that not every home owner will be ok with their home being used for a wedding venue. The smart ones will want to buy extra insurance to cover the event, and that will add up quickly.

We are using a vacation rental for our venue and having our wedding party stay there for the weekend. We also have a very small budget so it was perfect when we found one. We found ours through vrbo.com. Most listings will say whether parties/weddings are allowed. And we were not required to pay extra insurance, it is covered in the rental price. We did have to buy things like linens and glasswear etc (it turned out to be cheaper to buy instead of rent because we are having a small wedding) and will have to rent chairs but it is still so much less expensive at the end of the day than some of the other venues we looked at. I would definitely recommend a vacation rental as a budget friendly option so good luck!

Same here ! We found the most gorgeous private-gated vacation rental home on over an acre on a lake through vbro.com. We feel so blessed to have found it because even with the rentals , we are saving so much money. We were not required to buy any additional insurance and the owners actually love having couples use their home to get married and celebrate there. They only asked that they be allowed to come over before the guests so they could take pictures of how we decorated and set things up so that they could use a few of the pics on their website to help advertise the property. We actually rented the home for 4 days so that my FH's brothers, their wives, and us could spend time there together before the wedding and enjoy the swimming pool, bbq , fire pit, lake, and the beach which is only 5 miles away. Sorry for rambling, but we think we made a great decision. So i say, search the website vbro.com, craigslist, and any other site you can find because you might just get as lucky ! Best wishes....Smiley smile

I looked into this idea as well, but for my area, most places wouldn't allow weddings, or if they did, the cost of rentals for linens//tables/chairs/plus the cost of catering or food/alcohol would have made it just as expensive as a traditional venue. I love the idea of it, and am jealous of those that had this work out!

VBRO is the best website to look at for this IMO. Good luck!

We got a vacation rental for our venue but ours is at the beach! I think it's such a perfect idea because we can have our ceremony on the beach which is free and we rented the beach house for a little backyard reception for around $2000 for 3 nights in May. VRBO really is the best option for choosing a vacation rental though.

This is what we did in Seagrove. We rented a home that slept 20 people for $1,500 for 7 nights. It wasn't right on the beach, but for the price, 2 huge decks for a reception, and a nice 4 seater golf cart that we could ride the short .2 mile to the beach, it was nice. We got this deal on VRBO.com. I just searched their site for NC....and found about 11K rentals. You should check it out. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your replies, everyone! I just booked a nice farmhouse through VRBO that sleeps 16! Got it for Just $500 for two nights! I am very excited because this means I can put much more in the decorations budget. I've got my eye on a chandelier I want to buy for it. Smiley smile Thanks for all the great advice!

Some Vacation Rentals don't allow any kind of parties as well as weddings so check their policy before booking any vacation rental.
