Claudia, on January 6, 2020 at 5:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
I'm having a vegas wedding sometime in 2021 looks like Aug could be sooner. How soon should I start the actual planning and the save the dates. My family in CA his in AR and we live in Dallas. Feels like too soon to even get a jump on it but don't want to be catching up and nobody makes it to the wedding due to timing

Since it’s a destination for everyone, it’s not too soon to start. Do you plan to get married at one of the hotels on the strip? FH and I live in California and are getting married in Vegas (so it’s a destination wedding for 100% of our guests as well). We got engaged on 1/11/19 and initially figured that we would have a local wedding. But in March, we randomly decided to get married in Vegas instead. So for about a month, I researched all of the hotels on the strip, emailed their contact people, looked at various photos of their wedding venues and compared packages. In May, we flew out and completed scheduled tours at the 7 hotels that we narrowed it down to. From there we agreed on one.

I think it’s good to have an idea of what you’re looking for in a venue. FH and I knew that we did not want a hotel ballroom (because most of them look the same and we can get that here in San Diego). Therefore we wanted a venue with a unique style that would be a fun environment and experience for our guests, since they’re traveling.

Funny you say San Diego that's where all my family is. So you flew to vegas to look at the venues? I like the chapel of flowers for ceremony and then dinner after. Not quite sure yet we know we want to go out to after and to the clubs with our friends and family. I just don't know when I should start sending out invites or what i should be doing about hotels and accommodations. Do I pay they pay? I don't want to make it hard on anybody

Yes, even though we’re very familiar with Vegas, we didn’t know Vegas from the “wedding” standpoint. So that was a different experience seeing venues within the hotels that you don’t typically look at while visiting. We didn’t tour any chapels. But I’ve seen pictures of the chapel of flowers and it seems really nice. Depending on your guest count, a dinner afterward would work well. But once you secure a venue and date, then you can look into sending out “save the dates” so that your guests have a heads up. FH and I are mailing ours out this month for our October wedding.
