Veil, Head Piece, or Both

Francesca, on June 23, 2021 at 8:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
So ! I’ve be looking around to get some ideas of how I’d like my hair and I started thinking about what I went on my head to accessorize. I was thinking I definitely want a headpiece but I also would like to be traditional a little so I was thinking maybe both ? But I really like this head piece alone ! I don’t know what I want clearly lol Veil, Head Piece, or Both 1

You can layer veils, hair accessories, headpieces, and crowns tastefully, but you need to have a good fashion sense about it. I would consider what is going to be most functional for you throughout the evening and what will go best with your dress and the hairstyle you want.

I wore a fingertip length veil for our elopement and some decorative hair pins that I made myself for our wedding celebration (Covid bride). While the veil was beautiful when draped correctly, it wasn't really "me" and was kind of cumbersome and not all that practical. I just felt the need to fiddle with it constantly to have it be the way I wanted and ended up feeling a lot more comfortable once I removed it. I liked the hair pins I used for our celebration much more, and because my dress was lace I felt like they were adequately "blingy" for the dress. However I think if you have a really modern, chic simple dress (like a silk/satin slip dress or an unembellished crepe gown) having a veil really elevates it and makes the whole look more bridal. My reception dress would have needed a veil if I had chosen to walk down the aisle in it.

Thank you ! The dress I’m thinking of getting has enough detail to not need a veil ! Anddd I feel like a veil isn’t really my style plus I don’t want it to be annoying during the reception 😂 my thing is I still want to feel like a bride so I hope a head piece alone can do that for me

    Definitely!

Part of the reason I wanted a veil was because 1) when else will I ever get to wear one and 2) I love some veil photos, like the ones taken from underneath the veil where the veil is framing the couple kissing or ones where the veil is tossed in the air and looks like its blowing in the wind. But they are pretty unpractical and depending on the material, length, and how the veil is placed in your hair they can require constant fidgeting so that they appear draped correctly for photos.

I had my friend take the veil out of my hair immediately after our ceremony and was much more comfortable, and I like our veil-less wedding photos more than the ones with the veil. I would LOVE to do a photoshoot with a long, dramatic cathedral length veil but for actual wearing purposes they are just kind of a pain.

I love that head piece!!! 🤩 It's definitely enough detail and drama on it's own!!

Like Kari I only wore my veil for the ceremony, and didn't even wear it for half of my wedding party or family pictures - it's definitely less comfortable than wearing a hair accessory!

Veils are not usually worn during reception. Just ceremony so it's really just for a very small amount of time.

That’s very true ! But I just wouldn’t want it to be too much along with the dress I’ll try it on with a dress and see how I feel about it

I think the term for something that sits more towards the front of the head or the forehead like that is a diadem, if you're looking for another term to add to your searches!
