Veil over the face?

Charlene, on January 22, 2012 at 8:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Are you wearing a veil, if so, are you wearing it over your face as you walk down the aisle? I kind of feel like a bee's keeper with the veil over my face so I was curious how everyone else plans to wear it.

I wont have the veil over my face. I honestly dont see people doing that very often anymore. FH uncle's now wife was going to do that because it was very traditional which is what she wanted, but dropped it a the last minute.

That is a good question I was thinking the same thing...I have to see how it looks when I have it over my face but because I cry at almost all the weddings I have attended I may hide my face

I tried on a 2-tier veil with one layer over my face, and I felt oddly claustrophobic. It was strange.

Not for me, but I've seen one person my age do it recently. I think it can look really pretty and still look modern too, it's really just whatever you want!

My veil is just 1-tier and I'll wear it back on the crown of my head.

LOL you're funny Karla. I was thinking of not putting it over my face. Because I want my hair half-up/half-down I want it just wear my hair is and cascading down. I won't be wearing my veil after the ceremony, and 2-tier veils are a little bit more expensive, so I think I'll just stick with one layer veil.

CHarlene...I did in 1982 and it was a summer wedding. It was hot as hell.

Kris S....I love your veil. Cate is wearing a cathedral length veil, Maggie Sottero's Bernadine veil. She is also considering wearing it this way.

I am not doing a blusher veil, I think that's what the one that goes over your face is called. I tried it and it freaked me out. I seriously felt claustrophobic, as weird as that sounds. But I think the veil over the face is not as popular as it used to be. As I think about it for all the weddings I attended last year, none of the brides did it.

@Amanda, I felt claustrophobic too! It was strange. Glad I'm not the only one.

Thank you Charlene and Carole! I feel like I talk about my veil on this site all the time b/c I'm obsessed with it...the lace is from my grandmother's 90 year old veil, and the tulle is from my mother's 45 year old veil. We found them packed away in the basement in a random unmarked box after I got engaged. I had a seamstress restore the fabrics and then stitch them together. Smiley smile Sorry if I tell that story 5000 more times. Smiley smile

Carole I *LLOOVVEE* that updo. Gorgeous.

@ Kris - no way! My consultant thought it was really strange. She laughed at me a little, but she is a friend so it didn't hurt my feelings.

I originally wasn't going to wear a veil, but I'm opting for a birdcage veil, but it won't be over my face. I want to be able to see! I think the veil over the face looks morbid. Like you're shrouded.

I will not cover my face... My fiance wants me too, but let's be real, I'm not a "spring chicken" like my grandmother was at a young age! I do like the concept of veil in the back with a lovely look... It's your day, do what you want!! What is "tradition" now a days!!

Absolutely not for me. I just ordered my dress and veil yesterday and I never even tried on that kind of a veil on. I knew that wasn't my style and entirely too traditional for me.

I got a two layer veil! But I won't put it on my face, just that I like the puffy look on my back head, I want my FH see my face when I be walking, he thinks I am having my face cover it.

NotFroofy and I were planning on putting veils over our faces. Hers was 2-tier, and mine was 1-tier but had a blusher added. However, we forgot on the day.

I'm not, I got a simple one tier waist length veil for the ceremony, and then I plan on putting something else in my hair for the reception.

I am absolutely going to wear my two-tiered veil with one layer covering my face. I am young but I do like things traditional with a modern twist. my veil has swarovski crystals scattered throughout it and it is beautiful! My fiance agrees with me about the veil. He is a southern man and likes things somewhat traditional too. I was concerned about how it would look with my non-traditional, Super sexy Allure Bridal Gown. But I put the whole ensemble together at my last fitting and it looks phenomenal! The crystals add just a touch of sparkle without distracting at all from the dress.

It was explained to me that a more modern reason for covering your face is this: Your man has already seen you as his friend, his girlfriend, and his fiance. But, when he lifts the veil to seal the marriage with a kiss, THAT is the first time that he gets to see you as his wife. Of course the OLD SCHOOL reason is more chaste.
