Veil placement

Helen, on April 2, 2019 at 8:06 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10

I had my hair trial at the weekend- and I hated it. I just wanted something really chilled (but still polished), down and wavy, maybe half up half down to give it some volume. I think the veil placement looks so strange?! I kept asking for it to be higher but she said it would flatten the volume at the top, and that it was really old fashioned.

I don't really have time for another hair trial (I live at the opposite end of the country to where we are getting married), and now I am super stressed. Does anyone have any pictures of their veil placement with hair down/half down? Thank you v much!

Helen, I definitely see what you're saying about wanting it higher. Where it is now, it looks sort of awkward. But I also see what she's saying about it flattening the volume towards the top if it's raised higher.

Could you maybe play with your hair and veil a little bit on your own at home, to see exactly what would happen if you raised the veil higher, and how it would look?

Would it be possible to get a barrette/clip to go at the top part of the veil to create a more cohesive look? You don’t want to flatten the top, so I understand why they didn’t place it higher. This is the one I got, and we have similar hairstyles! Honestly, from the side view you posted, I think it’s gorgeous and looks great!

You have beautiful hair and I love the soft waves, but I agree the veil, as it is, looks really awkward. First, are you sure she put the veil on "right side up"? I know that sounds weird, but you don't usually see that flat band showing at the top of a veil. Is it possible to flip the comb so that band is hidden underneath the tulle? That way the tulle would gently "poof" up over the flat part of the comb. If you don't change anything else, I think that would help make the veil look better in your hair. Second, I think a half-up/half-down style, where the top is "anchored" in the back to make the volume more stable and the veil is then attached where the half-up meets the half-down, would make the veil look more like it's part of your hair-do, rather than just "stuck on." Finally, I do agree with her in that I think a gathered veil, too high up on top of the head, looks dated. If you're going for a 60-70's feel, it works, but I don't love it for a more modern look.

I also agree with pp that some kind of an embellishment might help, especially if that flat band at the top of the veil is going to show. Good luck! You'll get it perfect! Smiley heart

I also agree that it doesn’t look like the veil is on right. The comb needs to be flipped down so the veil comes out over the top and you don’t see where it’s sewn on.

And not to hijack this thread, but that comb is really pretty. Where did you get it?

I got it on Etsy! It was a struggle to find a reasonably priced comb that had the right look I wanted, wasn't too big for the back of my head, and that was symmetrical. I was being a little specific! Here's the shop - she has a ton of options and the shipping was insanely fast. I bought it on Friday and it arrived yesterday, packed up securely and in a cute little box! Highly recommend.

I second all of this. Definitely try putting the comb in the opposite way and see how you like that. And if you do a half-up with some bobby pins to anchor the volume, you should be able to incorporate the veil that way and it will fit in better. Good luck!
