Vendor communication

Liz, on February 22, 2021 at 3:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
How often do you all speak with your vendors? I just realized since we've booked all of them back in August and September we haven't talked to any of them. I don't have any questions to ask, nor any bills coming up, just feel its a bit strange to have no communication for 6 months. Is it common to send an email saying hi and checking to make sure everything is good on their end?

There's a few vendors that we talk to more frequently. My florist is my day of coordinator and my planner, so her and I speak pretty frequently. I also talk to my photographer a good bit, she checks in on me and makes sure she keeps up with my vision and wants. But other than that, we don't communicate with our vendors much at all.

There's nothing wrong with checking in if it makes you feel better. But as long as you signed a contract and they're still in business, there's no need to reach out until you get closer. I booked all my vendors by March 2020 for our May 1, 2021 wedding. And almost all of them have reached out since the new year. But before that, there was no communication other than with my photographer for engagement pictures.

I haven’t spoken to mine in probably around 8 months. I will reach out closer to the wedding. For now there is nothing they need to do but hold my date.

We only talk to our photographer frequently. Our photographer does quarterly payments so that’s the only reason why. we have a wedding planner so as of recently our wedding planner has been the one speaking with them. I think just as long as they communicate with you closer to your date it’s ok. We booked 90% of our vendors last July. And our wedding is July 31. And we haven’t talked to most since then.

I don't think it's a bad idea to just send an email to check in and find out if they are waiting for any info from you! You could also ask them if there is anything you should start thinking about (timeline, details that they'll eventually need, etc) in the meantime. Otherwise, it's not uncommon for there to be that long of time period with no communication if there isn't anything to do.

Hello! Yeah I personally like to check in every few months or at least on a greeting type of holiday! I booked my vendors so far in advance so it’s worth it to me to check in and say hello to build a little more on the relationship and help me feel like they will continue to remember our wedding day and the things we talk about. Stuff like that.

I haven’t talked to any since we decided on specifics & signed the contracts. I reached out to our DJ, photographer & owner of the venue to set up final meetings but that was about it.

I only have one vendor and my FH is paying for it: a photographer. Haven't spoken to her since November.
