Vendor contract requiring night of tips?

Michelle, on November 21, 2021 at 2:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 1
I was unaware this was a thing until reading on another site that many vendors require this. Luckily the ones we booked did not and we have been told by recent couples we know to not tip anyone the night of the wedding because you are on Cloud 9 and would give tips that are not deserved for bad/mediocre service that you may not be personally aware of but guests may notice. Instead we were advised by multiple people to wait until after the honeymoon when you can assess everyone’s performance at the wedding with a clear frame of mind and decide who should be tipped at that time (delivered electronically or in person) for going above and beyond and those who didn’t care about working or pulling their weight and giving them a tip says “thank you for being jerk to us”. I have no issues giving a tip when it is well deserved but with years of experience in the service industry I don’t feel comfortable rewarding someone who doesn’t want to be there and not all service jobs are based on tips.

Was this a deal breaker if it is required or would it even bother you?

This is the first I've heard of vendors requiring night-of tips!!

There were certain people that we made sure to tip on the wedding day like all delivery people, wait staff, bartenders, our hair & makeup team, and our bus shuttle driver!

Everyone else we waited a day or two to get our breath and reflect before sending out final thank yous and tips!!
